NFC tags and Home Automation (requires an Android based phone with NFC support)

FYI to Dan and others: I just tried sticking both a Tagstand and a Sony Experia NFC tag behind a picture frame and a painting, works just fine. I need to hold the phone parallel to the painting, but its probably 1/4" away. Haven't done further testing.

I'm guessing your phone has a better antenna, as I have yet to encounter someone with a Galaxy Nexus who doesn't have to touch the tag.

FYI a friend on google plus with a Galaxy Nexus says that his works from 1" away.

Is he using the Samsung extended battery in his Nexus?  I'm wondering if the OEM battery has a different design.  My tags came from TagStand, which has a great reputation.  I'll have to do some more experimenting.

I'll ask. I'm using Tagstand tags too, primarily to support them for giving away NFC Task Launcher, but they also happen to be 10 blocks from my office. Haven't ever gone to see them, though.
