Procedure for adding keypad #2

A couple of nights ago, I wired up the keypad (the one with temp sensor) along with the speaker and a magnetic sensor to my M1G, enrolled the keypad, ignored zones 2-16, and tested it out... it worked.

Last night, I wired up the second keypad (the flushmount blue-backlit one), and tried bringing up the system with both attached. I got various errors, including one implying bad/corrupt eeprom, no response from M1, and others. I made sure the one at the end of the chain (the original/temp-sensor one) was terminated (it was), and made sure that the one in the middle of the chain (blue-backlit flushmounted one) was not terminated (it wasn't).

If I disconnected one or the other, the remaining keypad worked fine, regardless of whether or not it was terminated.

I finally figured out that I need to change the ID of one from '1' to '2'... but how? I tried booting up with only one connected and attempted to change its id to 2, but when I shut down, reattached the other, and booted up again, I got a whole slew of errors (I think it was at this point that 'bad(invalid?) eeprom (checksum?)' was one of them).

I suspect I need to reset everything back to the default values (keypads AND m1g)... but I'm not quite sure how, or where it's covered in the manual.

Yes, each kpd needs a unique addr. Just for sake of being thorough, I would:

1. Remove KP2 from M1
2. Do enrollment (should leabe you with just the kp1 at addr 1)
3. Connect the kp2
4. Set addr on kp2 to 2
5. Do enrollment (should give you both kp1 and kp2)

This is covered step by step on Page 2 of the KP2 manual.

If I do that, won't I end up with two keypads, both of which have address 1? Shouldn't I instead boot up with only kp2, enroll kp2, change kp2's id to 2, power down, attach kp1, power up, then enroll kp1 (with default id=1)?

Also, how do I "wipe the slate clean" and restore all the settings for the keypads and M1G to the values they had when I first unboxed them?

Absolutely! After connecting with ElkRP select the menu Send/Rcv and then pick Enroll/Update Devices....

So... I can literally hook up all four of my keypads into the database hub, power on the m1.

Then fire up elkrp and enroll, send/receive, then all the errors will go away?

All the keypads come from the factory set to address 1. You must make sure each keypad has a separate address or you will get data bus conflicts.

Anyone know where it is documented that holding the CLEAR button on the M1KPNAV for 15 seconds allow you to change the address?
