Recommend a current alternative for VRC0P?

i had a house fire, ran a bunch of home automation stuff (zwave and elk) and then lost interest. it's now 2 years later and i want to finish it up. I have a VRC0P bookmarked as the next thing i need to get zwave going but I remember not buying it because some new/better version was being released. Anyone have a recommendation for what i should buy?

The newer version is labeled as the VRCOP-1LW, it generally also is notated with a +3.

awesome, thanks. Is that all i'll need to get zwave and elk talking? is there something about an installation usb dongle i need? Sorry, my memory is smokey...

The VRCOP is a secondary controller. I don't know what all you have now, so I will spell out what I've got...

I used the VRUSB-1US (LINK), which is a primary controller. This is used to setup the Zwave network using the Leviton RF Installer Tool. Once all the devices are setup and enrolled, you update the VRCOP to include all devices. Note that the VRUSB is only needed for setup, and if/when you make any changes to your Zwave network. It does not have to remain on/connected after the VRCOP is updated.

The VRCOP plugs into an outlet for power, the other end is a serial cable. To integrate with ELK, you will need a M1XSLZW (recommended, as it also works with the security class (e.g. locks) - LINK) or a XSP. You can find more details on the exact setup process in the M1XSLZW installation manual, or possibly the XSP manual (I didn't go this route, but I know others have, so I assume it's in there as well).

I'm doing the exact same thing....if I want to program outside of the elk is there similar module/software to ISY99 that inlcudes an Elk Module (used for Insteon)?

Just to make sure we're clear on your intentions, you can't program Zwave devices with the Elk (add, update, etc.) You have to use the leviton USB installation stick. If you're saying you want to write programs to control the elk, you can use the ISY, however the elk module doesn't control lights, (but it does most other things) Zwave is coming to the ISY 994i version but the release date is unknown.
