setting up upb in PC dealer access

I'm trying to setup several UPB modules to include HAI appliance modules and switches and can't figure out how to do it in PC access using an Omnipro II. I've put the module in setup mode, tried to broadcast a signal (the sender is broadcasting)- nothing, tried the HLC configure button it comes back with an error unknown device code, tried plugging the sender and receiver into the same outlet to make sure I don't have an electrical communication problem - still nothing. I've come to the conclusion that I have no idea what i'm doing and really should have stuck with hardwiring.... Of course the instructions leave a lot to the imagination, I think they say place the receiver in setup mode - and the rest you are suppose to know. Maybe they should require an installer cert to sell this stuff to guys like me. If anyone wants to share some knowledge i'd be much appreciative!

UMA-E-W is a Simply Automated appliance (relay) module. The automatic programming is a HAI only feature. Other brands of UPB devices do not support this feature. The HAI switches should program fine, but you will have to manually setup the SA appliance modules using upstart. There are some articles in the HAI knowledge base (kb.homeauto.com) that tell you how to set up 3rd party UPB devices so they work with the HLC lighting scheme. Try a search for "UPB matrix" (I think).

I assume then I will have to purchase the PC programming link? I downloaded the software but don't see any way to interface it with my Omnipro ii LAN setup....

I think you're making it more complicated than it is. For HAI UPB devices, if you are programming in HLC, you set the "House Code Format" to HLC. For other UPB devices like the SA ones you talked about, set the "House Code Format" to UPB.

You then program the devices using Upstart. Then define the devices in PC Access in the Units section. For a UPB device with a device ID of 12 (for instance), define it in PC Access under unit #12. Name it, set the House Code Format to UPB, and you're done.

So, if i'm understanding everyone correctly - If I purchase the PC serial cable for the sender that came with the Omni 2 ( and the serial to usb adapter cause nobody has built a computer with a serial port in 10+ years.....) then I should be able to program the modules using the free upstart program on HAI website, then access the module using the programming perimeters that I set with upstart. Sounds easy enough.
