Stobe lens color?

Hello,

I note that security system strobe lights are available in a variety of lens colors: red, blue, clear, etc. Is there a standard for security system strobe light lens color? I plan on lighting my strobe(s) for fire or police emergencies.

I dunno but logic tells me red=fire, blue=police and white=ambulance. I do know that I have seen white fire strobes before in OK they have red somewhere on the case though.

I generally use clear just because it throws more light. I think the authorities will see the strobing light and be drawn to your house no matter what color.

I think the convention is :

Red = Fire
Blue = Police
White = Medical
Green = Severe Weather
Yellow = Physical Hazard (falling rocks? killer bees?)
Purple = Radiation

I don't think I have ever seen an orange strobe so maybe they aren't used (too similiar to yellow?)

I am also not sure which colors apply to biohazard or chemical spill situations (Maybe they are also red?)

You may want to check on this with your local police or sheriff dept. They may specify strobe color and other details you might not otherwise think about. My system installation is far from done, but the sheriff dept requires me to apply for a license if my system notifies either their central monitoring equipment or a commercial central station. Also need license if my alarm can be heard outside the house or if there is any visual indication. They didn't specify color. I also have to provide names/address/phone of two people for them to contact in event anyone notices an alarm condition and contacts them.
