Haiku Trouble setting up Haiku for HAI

My original HAI installer told me about this app, which I just purchased through iTunes.  My installer had set up the necessary port forwarding first on my home's router, and told me that after buying Haiku, all I would need to set it up was to enter the home's IP address and the two encryption keys.  After downloading Haiku, I did this and tried to establish the connection.  The first 4 or 5 times, it just said "connection failed", and I think it said "unknown".  The next time I tried it, it did seem to recognize my HAI system (the connection now displays "Omni IIE, Firmware 2.16").  But the connection still failed, and I received a message saying "Haiku requires controller firmware 3.0 or later.  Please upgrade the controller's firmware."

Neither my installer nor the App Store listing for the App mentioned this as a requirement.  First question, is that true?  (I also tried verifying my firmware version using the panel, with the method described in the FAQ list.  But firmware version wasn't anywhere under the 6-Misc options...)

Second question:  when I originally installed the whole HAI system 4 years ago, I had the HAI software on my PC.  However I've since switched to a Mac, and my installer tells me that there is no HAI software for Mac, saying I'm basically out of luck having the s/w on the home computer.  If that's true, any ideas on how I can then possibly upgrade my firmware version?

Thanks for the help...

my understanding is that, yes, Haiku requires the 3.0+ firmware (i believe it uses the newer HAI network protocol).

as for running PCAccess, i am able to run it fine inside a Windows VM hosted on Mac OS X (i use VirtualBox, but I presume Parallels, VMWare, and BootCamp will work fine too).

Yes, firmware 3.0 is required and this is stated on the app store product description as well as our web site. You can use VMWare/Parallels or even Bootcamp to run PC Access. You can also just order a firmware upgrade chip from HAI, it will let you load the firmware off the chip (there is a special process to do this). If your controller doesn't support flash firmware, then your only option is to order a chip from HAI.

Thanks, appreciate the reply.  I do now see where it says firmware 3.0 is required at the very end of the product description, in the 16th paragraph.  I'd missed that before, because in the "Requires" information, it just says "Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.  This app is optimized for iPhone 5.  Requires iOS 5.1 or later".  The firmware requirement should definitely be added to that list, so people like me don't miss it...

Is there a way I can find out if my controller supports flash firmware?  I haven't even been able to verify what firmware version I have through the controller.  The description on Haiku's website in the FAQ says to enter 9-setup / installer code / 6-Misc.  I've scrolled through every option under "Misc", and the firmware version isn't there anywhere...

If I did end up having to order the chip from HAI, where is it installed?  Into each controller, or only one?  (I have 3 controller panels.)

If you look at the Omni Pro II board, you will see five large IC sockets near the center of the board.  Look at the two chips in these sockets starting from the left while viewing the board.  Are there ICs in those sockets or are the sockets empty? If it has chips, its the older version that requires a new chip.  Its about $50 from any HAI dealer, and really if you don't have v3 and above, you should upgrade.  If you have chips the version is written on the left most chip.  Otherwise, go to a keypad, press "9" then enter your PIN number, then press "6."  It will tell you the version.

If you have the newer version that doesn't require chips, it can be upgraded from PC Access when you get that going, and it does work fine on a Mac.  Otherwise find a friend that will let you borrow his PC so you can upgrade.

Unfortunately Apple does not allow us to modify this field.

You would need one per controller, unless your controller is flash then you can use just one to copy it over or even none and just upgrade via PC Access.
