UPB Help

Ordered a couple of UPB switches to play with and really like the switches, however I'm a bit confused on the potential functionality.

What does everyone recommend for 3 ways with pub switches?  Is an 1140 with slaves the preferred setup or would 1140's in a virtual 3 way offer more possibilities?

I do not know what a pub switch is.

I didn't purchase UPB SA slaves for my 3-4 way set ups and went to virtual 3 ways instead and capped the old traveler wires.

I also did just upgrade a few UPB switches to multitoggle and dual load/supply switches.

I'd check other threads, this is talked about often.  Its not really a case on what is "preferred" its what works for what you are trying to achieve. Remote switches are fine if two switches will always control the same light. The negative is its wired to that main switch, so what you have is just that.

If you use a remote transmitter switch instead (or a regular switch not hooked to a load) then you can create a virtual link to the main switch and create a "three-way" like that.  Its more expensive, because real transmitter switches are more than wired switches, but its much more flexible. You can reprogram that remote switch and have it control any device in your house, and change it as much as you like. It could even be used to control banks of switch, or trigger home automation things.

So its really flexability vs. cost.

I started with a remote swith on a three way circuit and changed it out with a 240 with a half rocker/four button facplate that I can use use a link transmitter.
I found this gave me more flexibility as my system grew, but the top rocker was still intuitive enough for anyone to figure out how to use it.
There's no load attached to the 240 but i still program it to respond to all the same links as the primary switch so the LED statuses track together.
