USBUIRT Controlled by more than 1 app at a time?

Gents,

I am using USBUIRT with SageTV to control a set top box. At the same time I also want the USBUIRT to do some other things, but in EventGhost when i try to load the USBUIRT it will not load properly. Before i had SageTV start to use it it was fine.

Can only 1 application at a time have control over the USBUIRT?

Can you have more than 1 USBUIRT connected to a PC at the same time? If so, how would you differentiate between them?

only 1 app per USBUIRT, and I don't think you can have more than 1 USBUIRT per box but not sure. The differentiation is the issue.

When the USBUIRT is implemented as an XAP node then it can service multiple applications. I did this for someone a few years ago. In my case I use ADI Ocelot for IR and the same approach is taken.

I just added receive and send support for USB-UIRT and Global Cache to my automation engine last week. Only one app can connect to the USB-UIRT at a time since it's serial and it keeps the port open. Global Cache I believe can have multiple TCP/IP connections to it. As Michael stated, you could use another application acting as a broker/hub for the device. I believe CQC has a SageTV driver, and as I recall IVB is a big advocate of both so he might be able to help you in that area.

Use EventGhost or Girder to connect to the USBUIRT directly.

Search abramsm1 or m1abrams on the SageTV forum and you will see how to get SageTV to make channel change requests to EventGhost or Girder.

The DVD control with EventGhost or Girder should be straight forward, well with Eventghost anyway. :lol:

hi IVB....by 'you don't' do you mean it can't be done or there is no need to? If i have CQC and SageTV on the same box and i want SageTV to control the STB's and CQC to control the Amp, CD player, whatever...can this be done?

I'm thinking it would need a small amount of developer help. SageTV is ready to do it but IIRC CQC does not have a command line interface. It would need to trigger something else for channel change requests and that passes the info into CQC. Or do it ground up like beelzerob has with SageCQC driver now. Best bet would be asking him and having him look at the links I posted, it probably wouldn't be too hard to add.

It can't currently be done. CollinR has a way to do it, I know Dean has talked about something like that beforehand, perhaps with the stuff Beelzerob is doing would make it possible.
