Vitek Cameras

I ordered 4 Vitek VTC-IRLED24A cameras from AO to replace my old Lorex cameras I have. I installed the first one today and the picture is terrible. Wherever the sun is shining the image is pretty much completely washed out.

Anyone have any experience with these cameras?

I will try swapping it out tomorrow...

Below is a screen shot at night. The image is much better with zero light than my old cameras, but the image has a strange circular cloudiness to it.

This is an issue with cameras that do not separate the IR sensors and the lens into separate "compartments". For IR night vision cameras you need the IR sensor "compartment" to be separate from the lens "compartment".
You also want to stay above 500 lines when buying cameras. Anything below that is just not going to provide a good quality picture.

The first several of these in the enclosures have this feature.

I have experienced a similar halo effect in night shots. If your camera design is the same as mine, with the lens in the middle - surrounded by IRs, and a foam ring separating the 2... then try reseating the foam ring. If it's not tight to the glass then it will reflect on the glass giving the halo effect.

I currently have the same issue with one outdoor dome cam. I have two which are similiar. Both have been outside for about 3-4 years. I had a close look at the one which had the "halo" effect. I will try to fix it again today. It uses allen socket screws to keep the cover on it. I couldn't loosen them to get the cover off. The dome has a center cam lens with a foam circular piece around the lens and then multiple IRs in the circumference of the lens outside of the foam. I can see a bit how "detached" the foam is from the glass. The camera itself casing inside of the dome is round with two halves held together with the allen socket screws. I will take pictures of the disassembly. Even though its an outdoor dome it is starting to rust a bit.

I agree, I think the key is to make sure the foam or rubber ring presses up against the glass, maybe you could add a rubber washer or something too if it doesn't press up tightly.

Thanks for all your replies...

As can be seen in the link WayneW posted there is a foam ring separating the lens from the IRs. I have not looked at the camera that is installed yet to make sure the ring is seated properly. Since these are brand new cameras I do not want to take them apart and try to reset the ring. Plus, I am not sure how they even come apart! The are no screws or anything visible anywhere.

Has anyone ever used this particular camera or any cameras made by Vitek? I think my best bet is to return them and get better cameras.

Below is a daytime comparison between my old Lorex camera and the new Vitek camera. Both screen shots were taken around 11:15am. This image does not really show the washout effect I was getting yesterday from the sun. I was experiencing it much later in the day though.

About it being washed out -- the halo affect is probebly caused by the light ring... During the day -- do you have contrast & brightness controls you can adjust? The image also looks over-sharpened...

The center of your screenshot is black, which causes auto-iris controls to brighten the image (washing out everything else)... What does it look like with a more ballanced scene?

I have brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation controls. I played around with them the other day but was unable to get a better picture.

I will try swinging the camera around towards the back of the house tomorrow for a more balanced scene.
