W800 Installation location

Santa brought one of these down the chimney and I am looking for a good place to install it. Is it really worth all the extra trouble to run wires up to the attic for this or is a central stairwell location good enough? I am only using this for automation purposes, but I would still like it to be reliable. My house is about 5000sqft including the basement and attic. It is only 6 years old so there are no plaster walls. Also, if I need to extend the length, is it OK to extend the coax portion or should I only extend the 4 wires from Elk to the XSP?

I have my V572A antenna installed in the attic of my home, but mostly to increase my signal outside and up my 300' driveway. I used an existing coax run to my attic. I'm also using the same antenna for FM radio, so it does have its uses.

I built THIS antenna for mine and mounted it in the attic (ran the coax down from the antenna to the W800). I get great coverage with this setup.

I have a split level home, and I have installed mine between the ceiling joists (basement level), and have great reception.

It sounds like I should not have to worry about it too much, but does it depend more on what I am receiving from?
I am planning on using this with a bunch of X10 motion sensors, x10 door sensors and X10 remotes.

ditto... just hid it under the drop ceiling in the basement!!!!!
