Want low-power, fanless, computer to drive automation software and touchscreens

Why not an EEE PC?

$299 over at Newegg.com, that's an entire system OS, etc.

You can upgrade to Xp on your own

You can add in a touchscreen if you want.

How do you add a touchscreen? Is anybody using one of these with ElkRM?

Also if I leave it configured with LINUX/FireFox, how well does it work with most HA web devices? Can I view Panasonic IP cameras? Run the JAVA based admin console on an ISY-99 Insteon Controller? See the pages served by my Stargate Web Expander? Or the admin pages on my router?

I presume as good as Firefox does on Windows.

I don't own one. Or run Linux. Just thought I'd toss it out there for you.

Found this while searching to find out what an Eee was...

Eee to offer Windows XP

I actually have nothing against Linux based systems or OS-X ones either for that matter. My only reason for seeking out windows is because the people who make devices for my HA hobby are very Windows centric. Sure I can use Linux with my ISY-99 or Squeezecenter, but what does a Linux device mean for running WinEVM to talk to my stargate? Or ElkRM, or Homeseer, or the management console for my Panasonic phone system, etc. Even the things that are web based like my IP cameras seem to have issues when using a non-Microsoft browsers or OS. I could spend my time finding workarounds for all of these situations or I can just stick with Windows and spend my time on actual automation stuff rather than monkeying with an alternative OS and browser.

Can you shed a little more light on your touchscreen setup - which model of the Via board are you using, power supply, enclosure, etc. What touchscreen are you using? I am thinking of mating one of these with an ELO touchscreen. Thanks.

I don't know to whom you are directing this question, in my case I am using this board.

Driving a Liliputt 10.4" touchscreen.

I had to resolder most of the solder connections inside mine to get it to work right.

I had the wall open so I mounted everything inside a 14"x20" can just in case it burns up it won't start a fire.
