What else needed with Elk m1 order? What sensors?

I am going to order a elk M1. What else do I need with it?

Here is what I know and don't:
ELK M1 GOLD SYSTEM 4 PACKAGE M1GSYS4 (is this the right system?)

2 extra keypads

2 ELK-M1 ELK Data Bus Wiring Hub ( I need about 14 sensors)

Cat5e cable and 22-4 wire in red and white

ELK-M1 Ethernet Port Interface (for internet monitoring)

What sensors should I get for:
Pet Immune motion (cat)
Door
Fire
co2

What siren can this use? Do I need a relay or something?

When you say "Data Bus Wiring Hub" do you mean a Data Bus Hub or a System Zone Expander?

Reason I ask is the way you worded it in your reply (you make it sound like the sensors will interface with the data bus hub which is incorrect, you need a zone expander if you will be going beyone the capabilities of the on-board sensor inputs). A data bus hub will interface your keypads and expansion cards to the Elk M1 Main Unit bus output.

Also, no 22-2 wiring? Are you running 22-4 to your door/window sensors?

The package comes with a siren I believe, but I prefer the Moose Piezo Alarms myself (louder and less current draw). You can do a search for them here...

Ok what do I need for 14 inputs? The DBH from what I understand will allow me to put plugs on the end to make wirine easer. The elk can do 16 input zones so I don't hink I need the expander board yet. Is this correct?

This is correct. I was just making sure you didn't think the hub was used for the sensors (I sort of got that impression with your wording).

The data bus hub is to connect expansion modules on the bus - like keypads, input expanders, etc... You should only need 1 of them unless you have more than 8 modules to connect. I like using different colors for the wiring, but I would not use red for 22/4. Red is usually reserved for something fire related, like smoke, etc and sometimes critical components like keypads.

I re-used my ADT siren, so this is a list of what I put in for the first order. I've bought another $2000 since then, but that's just because I'm a freak.

You didn't mention a bunch of this, I mention here "just in case"

Yep, actually I ordered more of the Bosch Blue Light motions since my ADT ones, although functional, looked damn damn ugly next to them.

I don't need 2 of the Glass Break detectors, and will probably return or sell them here as they turned out to be less useful given the window & motions were already providing redundant coverage.

Finally, I shoulda gotten a 42" can for my 2ndary cabinet, even if it was non-Elk, as extra room is always nice. It's getting a little crowded. I can't imagine having to fit the M1G in there too; well, it wouldn't have fit.

Definitely get the biggest enclosure you can fit into the space. A 14" enclosure is inadequate for all but the simplest installations. Get double the size enclosure that you think you will need.

I can only reiterate how nice the Elk-PD9 distribution board is. It is a must for safely powering your motion sensors, glass break detectors, or other devices that require power. I have two in my system.

Finally, be sure you are totalling the current draw of all the devices on your system. Even a modest system can very quickly outgrow the M1's 1 amp power supply. A siren alone can draw 750 mA. For head room, you really should be looking at an auxillary power supply. The Elk-P412 is a cost effective solution. The Altronix AL400ULX and AL600ULX are popular power supplies too.

The hardest thing for me was to not go too cheap in the beginning. Bite the bullet and buy the pieces you need. Perhaps the most important thing that I can say is plan for expansion.

Good luck.
