Who has Nuvo Music Port?

Just installed 3.0 beta of MCS. Have not gotten very far. Everything appears to have installed correctly and all services are running. I can run the Mirage app. over my home network and it attempts to connect. At this point I get a message that says: Server Not Detected. Please log into the host server to continue.

I tried unplugging the E6G for a minute and plugged it back in. No joy. I have also turned off all firewalls on the my server PC. I have 3 MP sources configured and the control pad just says "Connecting to Source" but it never connects.

Any ideas what might be going on?

Bill

start by dropping your sources down to one. I found that if it thinks a source is there, and for some reason it's not, it won't connect. Don't split your channels (just for testing) and try the single source, then report back.

OK, I think I got my fix from the guys at the Autonomic forum. Apparently there is a registry key that needs to be added/modified to improve fix connectivity issues. I have reposted the registry modification instructions below.

Now that I apparently have connectivity fixed, I have another question. I can get Pandora Radio to work. I have pretty much only started it from Mirage but it seems to work fine; however how do you exit/stop/cancel the Pandora stream? I can pause it or turn off the source but when I go to a keypad and call up the source that was playing Pandora in another room say, Pandora is still running. Maybe I'm just missing something obvious, but I can't get back to where it says "Ready".

This is from the "Mirage MCS 3.0 Beta Issues, Questions, Feedback" thread in the MCS software subforum

Our service has a dependency on the Windows TCP/IP service. If the system can't get it started within the default timeout period of 30 seconds (30000ms) then our service won't start and you will get an event in the system event log to that effect. To circumvent this problem increase the service start timeout from 30000ms to 60000ms, here's how.

To increase the timeout value in the registry, follow these steps:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
2. To change the value data for the ServicesPipeTimeout DWORD value to 60000 in the Control key, follow these steps:

a. Locate and then click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet
b. Click the Control subkey
c. Right-click the ServicesPipeTimeout DWORD value, and then click Modify.
d. Click Decimal.
e. Type 60000, and then click OK.

3. If the ServicesPipeTimeout value is not available, add the new DWORD value, and then set its value data to 60000 in the Control key. To do so, follow these steps:

a. Locate and then click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet
b. Click the Control subkey.
c. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
d. Type ServicesPipeTimeout, and then press ENTER.
e. Right-click the ServicesPipeTimeout DWORD value, and then click Modify.
f. Click Decimal.
g. Type a value of 60000, and then click OK. (The value is 60000 milliseconds and is equivalent to 60 seconds or to one minute.)

Note This change does not take effect until the computer is restarted.

Does anyone have their HAI system tied into their Nuvo system while also having the musicport connected? I haven't tried this yet but I would like my HAI system to have access to Nuvo, but with only one serial port on the Nuvo I'm not sure it can be done. I know there is an option in the MCS configuration to setup and IP for the Nuvo system but I'm not sure how that works, or if that helps tie HAI to Nuvo (by freeing up the serial port).

Thanks

CB

There is a document on the NuVo Prozone site called "Using Music Port with Home Automation Systems" that outlines the process. I used the section on HAI to connect to my Stargate.

Hope that helps.

I am wondering the same thing. There does not seem to be a way to "Clear the Queque" when Pandora is streaming. If I actually want to get back to "Ready", I have to load a song from my songs and then Clear the Queque. Otherwise, it seems to keep streaming even though the system is off. I seem to recall previous versions that allowed the Pandora stream to be cleared or stopped, but that's gone now. Not a big deal, but...

It's somewhat of a deal for me because my server computer is running under load and the cpu fan cranks up a bit. Don't want to be consuming any more power and generating any more heat (especially here is South Carolina) than I have to!

Thanks for this. I found the document but I'm a bit unclear as to what to do. It explains in generic terms 3 scenarios. Which scenario did you use? On HAI's website they only provide documentation for a serial connection to the Nuvo equipment. Under PC Access I don't see how to specify an IP for the concerto or a way to setup a listener on the Omni Pro II...

Thx

I use the serial connection scenario by using a USB to 2 port RS232 adapter.

I'm not sure how that solves it as the Nuvo only has one RS232.....

The MCS software acts as a pass through to the home automation system. So the Music Port PC is connected to the NuVo through one serial port and the home automation system is connected to the PC through the other serial port. In this scenario, the PC will forward any serial communication received from the automation controller to the serial port on the Music Port. It will also forward any serial communication received from the Music Port to the serial port on the automation controller.

The Music Port device will NOT forward the configuration type communication to the Nuvo system. I've tried this. In order to reconfigure my Nuvo main unit (E6G) i have to undo the serial on the Nuvo side of the Music Port device and plug it directly into a serial port. It's a pain in the ass,i can imagine for professionals providing remote support this is a real nightmare.

I suppose if you loop the whole thing through serial server you could 'break' that connect when needed, but i've heard of isssues sending configurations/firmware to nuvo devices via a serial server rather than a direct old school serial port.

I am using the MCS 3.0 beta server the Mirage client on a Nuvo Music Port system. The thumbs up/thumbs down is not available with Flash client or web client interface when using "Quick Mix" in Pandora. It also does not appear in the "Action" menu on the keypads. If I choose other "Stations" in Pandora, the Thumbs up/down reappear (keypads, flash client and web client). Is anyone else having this issue?

Anybody else having issues with the Media Control Server service starting and stopping itself? Mine has started doing this, leaves not info in the windows Event Viewer and even a full re-install doesn't help.

Not sure how to fix this short of a full re-format.

Oddly enough, I came here to ask the same question (and a couple others).

I've had the original MusicPort since it came out, and it never did work correctly. I had pretty much given up on it until yesterday, when I went to read some reviews on the brand new MP Elite. I found this forum, and started reading. Installed AC's Mirage 3.0 yesterday, and it worked -right- away. I was psyched! AND, I got Pandora, too!!

I listened to Pandora all day/night yesterday, and was psyched. Shut off the zone as usual, and went to bed. Woke up, and wanted to listen to Pandora while getting ready for work. Turned on a zone, and there was Pandora just going through a song about every 5 seconds. Couldnt' hear anything either. Something dun goofed up. Turned it to another source, and it worked great.

Went home for lunch and tried to use the Mirage flash player gizmo, and it didn't work. I rebooted the PC it's hosted on, and now everything works great.

Do I need to be doing something different to stop Pandora?

Was the Pandora thing what goofed up trying to even connect using Mirage?

Thanks for everyone for letting me get my music port running!!

The issues I notice with the version I'm running is that the last few seconds of each Pandora song is cutoff and as mentioned in previous posts, the inablity to easily stop Pandora streaming. But when I went to my server to see which version of MCS I'm running, there was an error notice that MCS had to be shutdown. After clicking OK, MCS would not restart. After rebooting the server, MCS would not stay running properly and Pandora and Mirage would not load. After the second reboot, all was good. But Pandora would not start until I launched Mirage on the server... then it all worked.

So I'm running MCS version 3.0.8087.12. It says within MCS that a new version is available, but I haven't upgraded it yet. Before I upgrade, what version is giving you guys the issues?

Thanks,
RA
