Who has Nuvo Music Port?

The Music Port device will NOT forward the configuration type communication to the Nuvo system. I've tried this. In order to reconfigure my Nuvo main unit (E6G) i have to undo the serial on the Nuvo side of the Music Port device and plug it directly into a serial port. It's a pain in the ass,i can imagine for professionals providing remote support this is a real nightmare.

I suppose if you loop the whole thing through serial server you could 'break' that connect when needed, but i've heard of isssues sending configurations/firmware to nuvo devices via a serial server rather than a direct old school serial port.
I came across this 'Serial Router' today - is this a serial server?

Serial Router SR-2

"The SR-2 allows two control systems to have access and control of a product with a single RS-232 port. Communications through Port A or Port B will be sent to the Master Port. When the product responds through the Master Port the communications will be sent to both Port A and Port B. Please note that the SR-2 only has RX, TX and Ground signals and is capable of transmissions speeds up to 460800 baud."

baud rates up to 460800
+12vdc @ 100mA
2.25" x 2.25" x 1"

This is a 'Tech Tip' from Russound on how to use this device with the CAV/CAM/CAA

That's just a serial splitter (allows 1 device to communicate with 2 other devices). I actually have that serial router, and it does work. It only supports the 3 basic pins, but it should be enough (RX,TX,GND). I'll try to review this after I catch up with everything else, hopefully in a month or so :)

Neurorad: I'm curious as to whether that device will actually let both parties communicate with the unit at the other end at the same time or if it's really an A/B switch.

I had seen this device before when i was looking into how to control my ALC lighting where i wanted basic/fallback control via ELK but more comprehensive control from CQC. In the end my server and CQC proved reliable enough that all lighting control is on CQC now.

Hello all --

Found this forum, and been reading through all the posts. Came with an MP (original) question, and now I have more. :)

1. I moved my MP to an HP T5740 2G RAM with the Music Library on my QNAP NAS device. Music (finally) plays, but only for about 2 seconds.
The progress bar on the client shows it still playing, but I have no sound. I thought it was a RAM issue, but I found the tech specs here, and
it 'should' run fine. Anyone else have these problems? Anyone else use a NAS for their music and a thin client? How did you encode/rip your
music that you are playing? I did have it running/working on a standard PC. Moved it to the thin client, for less power consumption.

2. I see a lot of talk about AC's MCS 3.0 beta. It seems to be what the MP software 'should be', had Nuvo not dropped it for the MPS4.
However, how do we get the software beyond a trail. I don't want to have to continually reinstall the software.

THANKS!

Greg

Just apply your NuVo MP license to the beta. Should work fine. (does for me, although I'm using a different license now)

k..got MCS 3.0.80.87.38 (beta) installed and the nasty restarting issues i was having with the nuvo version are gone it seems.

It took my Nuvo MP key just fine.

However, i'm not getting any album cover art...anybody have any ideas?

I sort of have the feeling we won't be seeing any more updates from Nuvo themselves but we're expected to use the Autonomics versions i think.

Can somebody summarize the current state of affairs for the Nuvo Music Port NV-MP? I tried sorting through the 28 pages, but I am sure a lot has evolved. I know it is discontinued by Nuvo, but I am considering buying the one recently posted here as a replacement/addition to my M3 Music Server & Grand concerto.

Does it stream Pandora with metadata?
Is it best to stick with the NuVo software or run the Autonomic versions? Are the Autonomic versions licensed & supported?
How is the access to the music/control from other PCs on the network?

Yes streams Pandora and RadioTime w/ the Autonomic Software, yes if you have a Nuvo Licensee it copies over to the Autonomic version (use the Autonomic version, cleaner more functionality). I have had GREAT support from Autonomic. Access to the music from other PC's is straight forwad and easy.

I will try the Autonomics sw, thanks zavodny.

Can someone clarify if the Autonomics sw can be used with the original NV-MP Music Port? I may want to sell mine, as I've bought the MPS4. In fact, considering the Elite; 320MB won't be enough for a giant FLAC library.

Yes - that is what I am using it on.

Just to add another data point to the thread concerning how the original Music Port works, use of the Autotronic driver, etc, in case someone might find this helpful.

I installed my Music Port for the first time 2 days ago. After install was completed correctly, it's been running flawlessly ever since and is pretty much what I hope it would be. It's easy enough to navigate through my music folders on the PC server from the various Grand Concerto (GC) keypads, and the Mirage PC client that comes with the Autotronic software is fast & easy to use. I have had 3 channels of Pandora streaming for a couple days continuously without issue, I will probably go buy another minijack-to-RCA connector so I can stream 4 (requires 7.1 instead of 5.1 audio). The 7.1 Realtek 889 chipset that is built into my motherboard works great by the way.

After making all the hardware connections, I downloaded & installed the latest Autotronic MCS driver. I did not install anything that came from Nuvo.

I hit a couple problems/quirks during my install, but it mainly seemed specific to me as opposed to a flaw in the system. I couldn't understand why the MCS driver kept showing 2 channel audio only and I couldn't utilize the 5.1/7.1 audio. The issue was that I was working on the server via Remote Desktop which forced a standard Stereo output not driven by the Server's soundcard driver. Once I closed the session and worked on everything directly from the server, all audio operated as it should.

Another "airhead" moment was when I got the 5.1/7.1 showing up, but still couldn't get more than 1 channel showing on the GC keypads. This was simply forgetting to enable all sources for the keypads via the Nuvo Configurator software. When I originally installed the GC I had disabled all sources except the ones being used, and had since forgotten about that :)

Note: Once I was finished & everything was working... I found when I briefly lost internet connectivity (had to unplug the cable modem briefly while re-routing the cable), that even though other apps (email, browser, etc) had no issues restoring connectivity without a reboot, Pandora was hung & required a full reboot.

Final Note: I haven't had a chance to experiment with this to confirm but it seems like I needed to run Mirage once from the server after a reboot to get Pandora going before the GC keypads would then show Pandora as an option under "Radio".

Pandora: Never used it before until I got the Music Port installed. I love it!! I think my Grand Concerto will be nearly exclusively used for Pandora, and some playing of music albums on my PC.

That's everything in a nutshell.

We're glad things are working well for all of you and that you're taking advantage of the migration path from MusicPort that we've provided.

You might enjoy using MCS with the new native iPad application which just went live today in the App Store. Of course, there's an iPhone application too for those of you who haven't broken down and bought the magic tablet yet.

To help spread the holiday cheer, here's an iTunes promotional code for a free copy of the iPad application: XP4LNKRK3H36. It's only good for one use, so hurry! Let us know who nabbed it! :)

Be sure to follow us on Twitter to get in on more goodies we'll be sprinkling around between now and New Years Eve. http://twitter.com/#!/Autonomic_Inc

Thank you all for your continued support - we wish all Cocooners a happy, healthy holiday season.
