Who has Nuvo Music Port?

We're glad things are working well for all of you and that you're taking advantage of the migration path from MusicPort that we've provided.

You might enjoy using MCS with the new native iPad application which just went live today in the App Store. Of course, there's an iPhone application too for those of you who haven't broken down and bought the magic tablet yet.

To help spread the holiday cheer, here's an iTunes promotional code for a free copy of the iPad application: XP4LNKRK3H36. It's only good for one use, so hurry! Let us know who nabbed it! :)

Be sure to follow us on Twitter to get in on more goodies we'll be sprinkling around between now and New Years Eve. http://twitter.com/#!/Autonomic_Inc

Thank you all for your continued support - we wish all Cocooners a happy, healthy holiday season.
Thank you! Thank you! I was able to grab the new Mirage iPad app!

Mirage is beautiful on the iPad. I'm impressed. I've had the Mirage iPhone app since it was released. The enhancements for the iPad version are amazing. I highly recommend both apps for any iPad or iPhone owners. Autonomic has done an awesome job with both MCS and Mirage. And I appreciate Autonomic's continued support of MCS for us Music Port owners.

Thanks again,
RA

Damn, looks like I spoke too soon. I've since hit a couple issues with Music Port & the Autonomic drivers, one of which is major.

1) Just a few minutes ago while listening to Pandora, the song suddenly cut off and the keypad displays "Connecting to source". This message stays on indefinitely for all Music Port sources/channels.
- As part of this, I don't get any of the options for even browsing music on my server hard drive.
- I tried running the Mirage app from the zone I'm in, and got an error message about not being able to connect to the server. Then I went directly to the server and brought up the Mirage app. Got into Mirage but none of the Nuvo Zones would display, and it showed "Extender D" as the selected Zone.
- I ran MCS and stopped & then restarted the services.
- Then, whether I ran Mirage on the Server or the local PC's, I got 3 selections in Mirage under Zones - Extender B, Extender C, Extender D. Normally I'd see the 8 GC zones (Master Bedroom, Family Room, etc, etc).
- A full server reboot was required in order to fix the issue.
- Note that I also already followed the instructions earlier in this msg thread to add a DWORD to the registry and give a longer timeout value to prevent "Connecting to source" timeout issues. This didn't prevent the recent problem.

2) The keypads can display time of day while off, which we've found very helpful. Since installing Music Port, the keypads all read as 9:85pm and don't change.

3) (Minor) I've confirmed that after a server reboot, Pandora won't display as an option under "Radio" from the Nuvo keypads until someone has first run the Mirage PC client once and chosen Pandora. After that, Pandora shows as an option on the Nuvo keypads.

If anyone has found any solutions to the problems above, I'm all ears :)

Thanks

SpeedDemon,

I am using the Nuvo MP with an Essentia system not the GC so I will not experience your issue #2 above and I have yet to have the first issue that you describe; however, I have confirmed your bug mentioned in issue 3 above. I have not found a solution other than the one you mention. Have you posted this on the Autonomic forum? If not, I would do that but most importantly send email to the Autonomic support team. They are very responsive by that route and can even remotely log into your system if need be to troubleshoot. I have given up on getting help thru Nuvo. They seem to have abandoned this product. Thank goodness Autonomic has not left us hanging (yet anyway). If you post the issue over at Autonomic, I will be sure to chime in to confirm the issue.

Bill

I have a GC that I'm installing. I have 3 zones hooked up so far and have system working. Have been able to use configurator to change settings, etc. I just purchased an NV-MP from another member and am trying to get it working. I'm having issues very much like what you described above. When I was first setting it up I was receiving the "connecting to source" message. I tried messing with a few things and before I knew it the zone control pad was displaying ready.

I also initially had the issue that Pandora didn't appear in the control pad menu until I started it with Mirage.

And my control pad shows 9:85 when the zone is on and selected to source 3 (which is where I have my NV-MP single-source connected). However, when I turn the system off the time display on the otherwise blank control pad is correct.

I initially didn't have a 2nd serial cable connected between the MP RS232 port and the RS232 port on the GC (which is required in order to control zones from Mirage if I'm reading the instructions correctly?) But after I installed the serial cable the Zones tab on Mirage still didn't do anything. So I rebooted the PC and then spent the next hour trying to get the system to display something other than "connecting to source". Once again I turned around to see it saing Ready with no idea what, if anything, I did to cause it.

And my control pad shows 9:85 when the zone is on and selected to source 3 (which is where I have my NV-MP single-source connected). However, when I turn the system off the time display on the otherwise blank control pad is correct.
The statement I made above was incorrect. I realized that so long as the MP is connected my control pads all display 9:85 PM even if all zones are off. I also seemed to notice that the 9:85 remains stationary in the control pad display- as opposed to periodically moving around in the display as it does when displaying time correctly. Not sure if this of any relevance.

Shortly after leaving the above post late last night my system started working again, I believe after a computer reboot. And it was still working when I woke this morning. However, in an attempt to find a fix for the 9:85 issue I went to the MCS sw and unchecked the box about syncing the nuvo time with the media server computer (sorry, forget exact wording or which tab it's on). As soon as I clicked the save button the system stopped playing and control pad started saying "connecting to source". so I gave up and went to work....

when I got it working again late last night I had zone control working from mirage running on a separate PC. Very cool system.... when it's working. But I can see why people give up trying to make this thing work. I hope the MPS4 is more "plug n play" when I finally save up enough cash to get one.

Bill & Msudawg, thanks for the responses. Sounds like I need to provide feedback to Autonomic directly since they don't appear to be active on this forum. At least I know now that all 3 problems I'm seeing aren't specific to my setup.

The reliability/stability is very disappointing. I typically get hit by a "Connecting to Source..." message every 2 days now. I don't want to have to reboot my server frequently to clear it, or worry that while we are entertaining, the music could suddenly go off and I'd have to go restart the system. If this 1 issue could be fixed I would happily live with the other 2 quirks.

I've been in touch Autonomic and they put me in touch with someone at NuVo regarding the 9:85 issue. They had no other reports of this issue other than me (and you as I made reference to your post). But he suggested some things I can try to fix that issue. As soon as I'm able to sit down in front of the system I'll try the suggestions and will report back here on what I find out.

Regarding the overall stability of the system- I've really only just begun to play with mine for a little while in the evenings so can't say yet how this will pan out. When I got home yesterday evening I immediately rebooted my PC and connected the NV-MP, which I had left disconnected from the evening prior. I just walked away and gave it time to do its media scan. When I picked up my laptop a little while later Mirage Client was still up and running from night before. It was connected to the server over the network and working OK- displaying data and allowing me to control source and zones. I had no further issues last night and left the PC running and the MP plugged in over-night. When I got up this morning I turned on the zone in my bathroom from the control pad and everything was still working fine. So I'm crossing my fingers that maybe doing the registry mod that was discussed earlier in this thread may have resolved my connections issues. But I'll need a lot more runtime on the system to really begin to feel confident in it.

Msudawg, How is RadioTime and Pandora working for you? As mentioned above, most of my issues right now are with RadioTime. Out of curiosity, how do you stop a RadioTime or Pandora session? As far as I can tell there is no way to get back to the "Ready" screen as you can with the "Clear Queue" when playing music from a local library. I was told by Autonomic to just pause the stream and then turn off the Nuvo system at the pad. This seems a little unappealing and I have a suspicion that this might exacerbate the "2 second looping" problem I am seeing with RadioTime. The only way I know to get back to a "ready" display is to pause RadioTime then start playing some music from my local library, and finally activate the "clear queue" command. Very awkward! I also have the occasional problem of Mirage not wanting to connect to the server and this usually occurs after I have remoted into my MP server to diddle with it. The only way I can fix is to reboot the MP server. Can't help with clock issue since I have the Essentia system which does not have that feature.

I've played with Radiotime very little and Pandora only slightly more. I've only listened to two local stations on radiotime and only for a few minutes each. However, I've not experienced the "2 second looping problem" that I've read about. Does it happen on all RT stations or only certain ones?

As far as stopping RT or Pandora, I've read those discussions and Autonomic's reply that you mentioned. I don't know of any other way to cause the system to go back to ready than to do as you stated- switch to a local song by adding it to the queue then selecting clear queue. I agree with you that it seems awkward, although I don't have a big objection to pausing the stream in order to make my media computer settle down. But I do agree that it would be nicer if there was a menu option from within the radio menu to shut down the radio stream and send the system back to "Ready".

After spending an hour one evening last week troubleshooting the 9:85 time display issue with someone from Nuvo I'm told that they have found the source of the problem and will be releasing a software update sometime this week to correct the problem. As soon as I see the software update available I'll report back.

Just wanted to say thanks for spending the time with them, hopefully that (firmware?) update comes out soon!

I wrote up & submitted to Autonomic the "Connecting to Source" issue that myself and others get hit by every 1 to 4 days. Unfortunately I only received a form-response telling me how to turn on logging. Would have loved to hear back from someone there since I doubt this is the first time the "Connecting to Source" issue has come up. But regardless, I'll get the logging started and see if it yields something.

Is there a way to create a permanent playlist of songs I'd like the MP to play and not have to reconfigure every time I have to reboot the server due to "Connecting to Source"?

It's my understanding that the firmware update for the GC delivered through an update to the Configurator software. The current version is 2.65 so I'm assuming that once the update is out I'll see that increment. I touched base with the Nuvo engineer on Friday and he said "we're having a
major issue with our software revision control system this week that is
preventing us from releasing anything". So I'm hoping maybe they get it worked out and the new software is released this week.

Hopefully Autonomics will get back with you on the "connecting to source" issue. I'm not having a lot of occurrences of that issue but I did discover that on the occasions when I get "connecting to source" I can correct the issue by simply unplugging/replugging the usb end of my usb/serial cable at my computer (as opposed to a full reboot).

I'm not completely sure about the playlist but i'm assuming that if you create a playlist in itunes (assuming that's what you're using for music files) then the MCS software will see that when it does the media scan and will display the playlist(s) in the menu. But I don't have any playlists setup (yet) so can't say for sure.

I just checked Nuvo's website and can report that Configurator version 2.66 is out. It fixes the 9:85 time display problem that I and SpeedDemon were experiencing, as well as a host of other issues. A list of problems addressed by the new release is on the download page.

Hello - where / how can and end user get the Configurator software? Be great to be able to make some tweaks to my system and update firmware. Thanks
