Wiring needed

Hi all,
I am closing in on my home automation plan this spring....I need to put everything on paper first to visualize the whole thing...now I am up to wiring..

my question is what wires without being redundant...i found the routes I will take to retrofit my house...but now need to know what wires...to lay FIRST

Ok...any help would be appreciated..

Setup
Understairs closet(opposite wall of entertainment center)-House PC( 2 serial pci card), Homeseer, way 2 call phone, cable modem

Need to run 20+ feet to boiler room/electrical panel Where Caddx NX-8e will be installed. Do I just use Cat5 for everything or mixed??

#1 SerialCable from pc to Caddx panel
DO I use Cat5e and make DB9 serial adaptors at either end or use 4 conductor 22 gauge? Male/Female, one of each? What about Db25?

#2 Caddx Keypads( One 40 feet away, one 25 feet)...do I use Cat5e or 4 conductor 22 gauge

#3 Ominstat Thermos (2) to PC serial
Do I use Cat5e and daisy chain or 4 conductor 22 gauge?

If I eventually move to thin client touchscreens and MainLobby to keypad locations....should I just lay Cat5 for everything

thanks to all who respond
