The gas detectors I installed were from a different manufacturer, but they say the detectors should be replaced after 5 or 6 years. Could this be the case?

A battery replacement after almost 5 years is not uncommon. Probably better to replace it now than to have it leak on you later.

I have ones similar to the above (although Leviton) and they work well. They are ambient light based. Only wish would be if you could adjust the night light brightness in full darkness for use in a room.

Trendnet has an 8 port switch, w/ 4 POE ports for around $80. They also have POE injectors for around $25. Mind you this is Canada pricing.

A suggestion would be relocating the 2nd motion, or adding a 3rd in a corner that would not catch the dog jumping on the sofa.

One problem to note if you use Celsius as your measurement unit. The Elk cannot remotely set or display all possible Celsius values on the HAI OmniStat. i.e. the thermostat can do 21, 21.5, 22, 22.5, 23, etc, but the Elk cannot do some values i.e. 21, 21.5, 22, 23.5, 24, etc. It is a limitation...
