Elk + Homeseer.. Where are the timers?

Hi All,

I am considering a system using Elk for Security/HVAC, etc. and Homeseer for the user interface.

I understand that Homeseer integrates with Elk through a plugin. My question is where are all the timer/triggers stored?

I would like a solution where i can control lights/audio/etc through my tv or remote but i don't want to be fully dependable on a Windows PC based solution.

Can timers/triggers be downloaded/uploaded to the Elk and can the elk then interface with lighting automation? I realize that the audio/video portion would not offline when the Windows machine is down, but i have to keep the lights working under any condition in order to keep the wife happy when i'm away on a business trip. :)

Any suggestions appreciated. I'm just getting started on defining the different components for the automation of a new home..

Does HomeSeer interface direction with IP based cameras through the LAN?

You configure the timers through ElkRP. What I used to do is having the M1 monitor if Homeseer is alive (by toggling a device on/off every # of minutes, if it hasn't been toggled in a while, go in stand alone mode), and execute the onboard timers to compensate for the downtime of the PC. I always did lighting through the M1, so that was never an issue. For what it's worth, you can even do IR control without a PC, by using an Ocelot.

Hi Dan,

So you wouldnt use all the trigger functionality of someseer? Or did you use HomeSeer functionality and have let's say simplified timers set up in the Elk which only get used under the condition that the Elk has determined that HomeSeer is offline?

I guess if i use insteon lighting then in any case the lighting should work independent of the Elk or HomeSeer...

Anyword on integration CCTV into HomeSeer? I was looking a Cortexa and it looked really neet, but HomeSeer is interesting as well.

It does if you use the NetCam plugin via the HomeSeer updater. You can also simply wrap the ipcameras in an ASP page and serve them via the HomeSeer web server as well. The Maesteo front end interface also does ipcameras as well.

I use the webcam plugin with Homeseer with my cctv cams. My end all goal is to have a dedicated dvr card the does most of those duties though. I have 12 cameras that feed into modulators. They then get sent to all the tv's in the house and a tv capture card. Homeseer uses the capture card to access the cameras. I can stream video and do stills. I have an event set up to snap a pic of the front door when the door bell rings. It also takes a picture of the street. I use the car to help identify the person. It then emails the pictures to me at work and my cell phone. The streaming side is used more by the grandparents. They can log on and check the kids rooms out.
