Elk M1 and Insteon

I recently installed a lot of Insteon devices in my house: light switches, door lock. I installed ISY-99 and I think it is wonderful. Now I am going to re-install the security system.

I read Elk M1 is very good - but it looks like it has a lot of overlap with ISY-99. Yet Smarthome sells these two in a bundle. I am wondering, if I already have ISY-99, is Elk M1 a over kill? Should I just buy a simple wireless security system? What more Elk can offer me as I feel I can already do everything using ISY-99i, maybe plus a software like HomeSeer?

First post here, love this forum, have been lurking for a week...

Thanks.

The ElkM1 is a real UL certified alarm panel, not just lighting control. It can communicate with a central station, and because of that you can possibly get a lower insurance rate. That is the main difference. It will set off an alarm if violated and you would also be able to use sensors besides Insteon. All the ISY will be able to do, if there is a breakin or other issue is email you and maybe turn some lights on/off. The M1 can also be used as a fire/CO/Natural Gas alarm but I don't think there is a way you are going to get that with Insteon sensors.
