ELKRP connection over internet with DYNDNS - failed to connect to server

I'm attempting to access an ELKM1 system using ELKRP via the internet. The target M1 system is setup with Dyndns. The router used on that system is a Linsys WRT54GS. The router there is also configured with Dnydns. In attempting to connect to this system via the internet I get an immediate 'failed to connect with server'. In the local system ELKRP is enabled in Windows Firewall.

EKeyPad Pro and the Elk Java work fine.

There's something about not seeing the forest because of the trees....

What am I missing here?

First thing I would say is only set one updating method for dyndns. The problem is they (dyndns) considers it abuse if you send them updates when no update is needed, and having two pieces of equipment sending updates will result in redundant updates, and they may cut you off. But this has nothing to do with your problem since it appears your dyndns is working since your elk java panel comes up.

Have you port forwarded to the Elk the necessary ports? 2601 I know is one, but there might be others as well.

by two devices do you mean the M1EXP and the router? Maybe I mis-interpreted the M1EXP manual, page 12, 6.2 about the router having Dynamic DNS support. Only one (the M1EXP) needs to be configured?

Also, can I ask how you're connecting to your home machine?

I have 2601, 80 and 21 port forwarded to the ELK.

I am not positive we are exactly talking about the same thing here.

On the Elk's xep configuration setup, there is a tab for dyndns support. Under that tab it has you put in your username, password, etc. for your dyndns server.

On most routers, you will find a nearly identical page.

Do not fill out both. One or the other. I am not sure that it really matters which you fill out, so long as one of them keeps dyndns.com updated.

Try adding port 2401. You will need to check the elk manual becuase there is a non-secure port that you DON'T want to port forward. I don't think 2401 is that port, but you certainly could forward it for a few minutes and see if it works, then make sure it is OK to keep it open.

EDIT:
I think 2101 is the non-secure port. That is the port that my ISY accesses the xep from inside the LAN. I do believe it is 2401 you need to get RP working.

For giggles, is the URL/IP set up correctly in RP with the secure port enabled and port forwarded as well?
