Haiku Haiku Freezes when it tries to send email

I am running Haiku Helper on a mac mini server. Anytime Haiku tries to send an email the program freezes. Only way to get it to work again is to force quit the application. Any thoughts?

Perhaps your mail server configuration is causing this? Have you tried a different server?
It freezes when I boot up the program. I have tried to delete it and re install. How do I clear all my config files?

Thanks

Try holding shift when you start HaikuHelper, does it still freeze? If so, you can remove the HaikuHelper.sqlite and Haiku.sqlite files from:

/Users/yourusername/Library/Containers/com.nullriver.HaikuHelper2/Library/Application Support/com.nullriver.HaikuHelper2/

Yes, the shift key just bypasses startup scripts.

You may be using an SMTP server that is incompatible with HaikuHelper. Try using something like Gmail.

It is strange. I am using smtp.gmail.com. I installed HaikuHelper on another mac and it is not having any issues. When I hold the shift key it shows the scripts have not been run at startup, then HaikuHelper freezes and I cannot close the info windows with the script message. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Just wanted to add "same here". Brand new install of HaikuHelper on a Mac Mini freezes the app when I try to setup Email notifications and send a test notification. I've tried my own SMTP server as well as gmail with same results.

We hope to replace the SMTP code soon. Its not very robust right now. We're looking for an alternative.

@e2djonline: Try disconnecting the network connection on your machine running HaikuHelper and then starting HaikuHelper. This should make it not attempt to send out any e-mail notifications on startup, giving you time to disable the e-mail notification feature so that the next startup works without freezing.

I would do that but the mac mini is hosted in a data center on the other side of the country. Do you know any way to block network access to Haiku until I reset the settings?

e2djonline: No, that would not be a good a idea then.

You can completely reset the settings by quitting HaikuHelper, deleting /Users/yourusername/Library/Containers/com.nullriver.HaikuHelper2/ and restarting HaikuHelper.

Love HH, the possibilities are endless!! I have a use case to send a screengrab to my iPhone from outdoor surveillance cameras when a zone is tripped. Since the cameras are IP connected, it should be easy enough to grab a jpg and email to [email protected]. Looks like I can use the sendMail function in the API to accomplish this. Any estimate on when the SMTP code will be re-written?
