Hi all

Be gentle am new to fourm and know i should search but my time is limited at present for researching etc. below is a list of what i like to make my setup of but i need help to find and locate correct parts.

I currently wantto beable to control the system from one app. Seen control4 which looks a nice app.

1) I currently have a wireless security system which like to connect.
2) like to connect my cctv to same app if possible as this already setup via another app.
3) control all lights around house. Inside and out if possible.
4). Control pir sensors inside and out.
5) window and door sensors.
6) control heating system. I have a boiler. 2 x thermostats and a controller at momemt but like to setup on controlling single rooms.

I notice alot of people talk about zwave. Also i like to keep current light switches and sockets if possible and only install modules.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

My best advice is to read the forums - there are hundreds of threads that start out just like this - the more you read, the more you'll start to understand how the different options work together and what can be accomplished. There are too many ways to accomplish the same thing and all have different pros and cons.

Quickly -
1. What kind of system? It may or not be controllable; you might be able to integrate or you can replace it often reusing many parts/wiring. Many of us go with a full automation panel as the heart of our systems.
2. Depends on the app chosen.
3. Lights are simple - just research Z-Wave, UPB and Insteon and see which one you like; or you can look into RadioRA or some others as well but they're much less common.
4. PIR sensors aren't controlled - they're passive devices - but if they're connected to your security system or you're using Z-Wave, you can detect them - depends on your base system.
5. Again - part of your security system.
6. No problem - but pick your base system first, then you'll know if you can go with serial/hard wired, Z-Wave or Insteon, or sometimes even Wifi.

Unfortunately, my time is limited as well. My suggestion is to hold off until you have more time to research, or hiring someone to do it. If you are planning to do this yourself, you will need LOTS of time.

I suggest reconsider your desire to keep existing switches. Most of the "normal" DIY solutions (Z-wave, UPB, insteon) are installed by replacing existing switches and hardware.
