How long to charge new battery on M1G

I just purchased an M1G setup and was wondering how long I would expect it to take to charge the battery. I have had it plugged in for 2 days and I am still getting "Low Battery" alert. I am getting 13.1v out of the leads from the M1 and when I disconnect the battery and test the battery voltage I got 9v to start with...but am now up to 10.5v....making progress, but seems too long.

Is this normal?

Normally it should take 2 days to charge. What is the date code on the battery. Also I am assuming it is a single 8 aH battery (the M1 can charge up to an 18 aH battery in 48 hours).

Is the date code the number stamped on the top? It says: PK070929

Other than that, I don't see any other numbers on it. Yes, it is the 8ah.

Thanks for the reply...

I would call ELK and verify the date code on the battery. It looks like it is from September of 2007 which may be the problem (it sat to long without being charged). If they verify that it is in fact from 2007 and you just bought the system I would ask the dealer you bought it from for a free replacement (a fresh one).

Sometimes dealers forget to rotate their stock or they buy to many and they sit for years. Where did you buy it if you dont mind mya asking.

Ebay purchase...so getting a fresh battery is out. If it doesn't come around, I will pick up a new one. I have been reading some of the posts on battery backup and adding additional power (for network, router, etc.) and I may do something like that as well. My home network has grown to 5 servers, 4 switches, router, modem, ISY-99ir for Insteon, etc. and it's time I think about putting all that in one place and battery backing it up...seems like a good time to do it now when I am installing the security system.

We had a storm last night here in Georgia and the power started bumping on and off (not a normal occurrence, it usually either stays on or drops all together). I was running around like a jackass trying to shutdown servers, computers, etc. I finally just pulled the main breaker...but since I have two services I had to do that in the basement and then run out to the garage to pull the other one. PITA...I'm in the process today of setting the servers to stay OFF when the power drops....safer that way.

Thanks.

Just because you bought it on ebay does not mean the seller wont make it right. I sell tons of items on ebay and stand behind them. Message the seller and ask nicely and hopefully he will help you.

Thanks....I have emailed him and will see what happens. I asked after the sale about other Elk stuff and he said he only had it because he picked it up in a liquidation sale as a packaged unit...but I will see what he says. The guy was a good seller, fast shipment, as advertised, etc. It was brand new in the box and a good deal (at least as near I could figure it)...so I am not complaining at all mind you...I am sure he had no idea the battery might be a problem.
