M1 Controllable Powerstrip?

I am working on an automation project where I need to independantly control 12 or more power devices. I have experience using UPB devices with my M1, and these work fine, however I cannot spend $70 per appliance module for this project...aquarium automation...Some of the aquarium controllers out there have power strips that are controllable with thier systems so I am wondering if there are similar controllable powerstrips out there for use with an M1 system....Thanks in advance

None that I know of that are commercially made. You could make one yourself with a heavy duty relay or contactor and control it with a 12 or 24vdc signal from an Elk M1 relay and power supply.

Looking at sic0048's post abobe you may be able to use and RS232 based device with the elk depending on the data it needs. I beieve the ELk can send ACSII strings if I'm not mistaken. There are others that will definitely be able to help you in this area.

If you don't need dimming, 3 prong plug, and 400W is enough, you could try to get in touch with someone who has access to a Fry's. They sell these applliance modules for $5 at their store.

Well, there's this from Black Box. I'm not saying that $900 is the right price, but maybe this suggests something else in their product line, or a similar vendor.

Now those look interesting...Dimming is not needed...400W is plenty..but I would think that a grounding plug would be required being that water is around., but I am not an electrician...thoughts? The price is perfect.

That's what I was going to suggest as well, but he would be hitting the price range of regular UPB appliance modules. I personally have a few of these deployed:

Cheaper, IP, and has 2 serial ports (but not sure how simple the protocol is).

Very interesting..and they have one product that is just over $100. The doc says that serial is under development...I'll contact them tomorrow...looks like a great value. I also read the PERL scripts..those look simple but the m1 couldn't support it....

Thanks all....

Datanab makes nice easy to use stuff like the K-815 or ibootBar which would be easy to interface with the M1. Just a contact closure/relay controls each outlet. But alas they are not cheap, would run $300-$500 per 8 outlets.

That's the old version of the unit I mentioned (same price). You are saying the old version will work , but the new version won't? Either way, high quality hardware!

That's it...same one...I've hit google so many times these past few days I can't remember who/what/when....nice find. So you have a few of these running? Seems like the price per outlet is very low.

I have 2 of them deployed in the 'field' (job related), and am ordering 2 more in order to control some equipment in my data center. I am very happy with them.
