Yesterday moved Home Assistant from the Virtual Box its been running on for a few years to a bare metal build. It runs a bit faster
HA has gone from an Ubuntu Installation (which was difficult to maintain) to Virtual Box install (easy to maintain) to now a bare metal installation.
Easy to do.
1 - Download the X86 bare metal image here:
2 - write the image to hard drive. Write it manually using either the Disks utility from Ubuntu or Balena Etcher.
3 - Configure new PC in BIOS to Make sure the UEFI Boot mode is enabled and Disable Secure Boot.
4 - install newly imaged hard drive and boot up. The image will expand to the entire size of the hard drive.
5 - personally here back up HA to the NAS. Download last backup (read encryption key if you are encrypting the back up) and restore it.
6 - you should be good to go.
