Multiple Audio outputs from single PC to CAV66?

I'm trying to set up my Russound CAV6.6 as I'm in process of creating my CQC interfaces. I currently have the first 2 inputs from my ST2 AM/FM tuners. The last four I'd like to have my PC send outputs to. That way I can play different music from the library or online streaming to different zones. I plan on using JRMC, which I believe will allow multiple audio streams.

My PC has a 7.1 output, integrated. Am I able to separate 3 independent Right/left audio streams from this?

If I am not able, what do most people do? Install multiple PCI audio cards; Install a single multiple-output PCI card; Install multiple USB audio devices?

Thanks for the input.

You probably won't be able to get your built-in sound card to do separate outputs. The only consumer cards I know that can do that are some of the SoundBlaster Audigy cards using the KX Drivers. You'll need to check their site for compatible cards. I have used their drivers in the past and they work quite well.

Otherwise, yes, USB devices will work to. Or you would need a professional audio sound card. They are design for individual access to all inputs and outputs. I use the M-Audio Delta 1010LT. It provides 8 inputs and 8 outputs (4 stereo pairs) plus SPDIF. There are many pro cards that can do this. But the M-Audio seem to be everywhere and priced well.

JRMC will allow your 7.1 sound card to have 4 separate stereo channels but I never tried it with onboard sound.

I have an Audigy4 5.1 card and I can have 3 separate stereo channels without using the KX drivers.

Yeah, the bottom line on whether this is possible all depends on your soundcard hardware. Most older sound cards do not have the ability to break out 5.1 (6.1, 7.1, etc) outputs into individual stereo outputs. But I believe some of the newer hardware does allow this breakout. So you might be able to take a 7.1 audio card and output 4 streams of 2.0 sound.

Obviously if your existing hardware does not allow this breakout, you can always get new hardware. Either multiple 2.0 soundcards, or a multichannel card that does allow stereo breakout. I personally use a m-Audio Delta 410 card for this purpose, but it is older hardware that has been discontinued and harder to find now. They still offer a Delta 1010 card that has multiple stereo outputs, but it is much more expensive than the 410 cards are (were).

Casatunes or Sonos if you end up looking for new hardware.

Actually, you could just try the CasaTunes software as it allows you to use a 7.1 sound card into four zones. There is a 14day trial on their website.

I use CasaTunes for about a month now and it is working really well....

With Casatunes software you should be able to use your 7.1 onboard audio, this will give you up to 4 sources of PC music for your Russound system. You will need a serial port cable from the PC to the Russound so you can use Casatunes for control via Web-Browsers that are on the LAN or the iPhone/iTouch app and Russounds Uno S-1 or S-2 Keypads. You will also be able to control the tuners through the CasaTunes control devices. You can find a video on CasaTunes website on how Casatunes integrates with Russound in our video guides.

Thanks,
CasaTunes

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to try JRMC first with my onboard audio, just waiting to get the right adapters to connect 3.5 mm to RCA plugs. If that doesn't work, I think I"ll get the Delta 1010 card. I haven't found anywhere that Casatunes integrates with CQC and that is a priority for me. And not worth the 7x price tag of JRMC since I already have CQC.

Thanks
