Output 2 Trouble

I recently started getting a trouble error on Output 2. It was working well for weeks, then all of a sudden trouble. It is followed by the pleasant smell of lightly toasted wires. The only thing hooked into Output 2 is a siren that was part of my old system. If I remove the wires completely I still get the Output 2 trouble. Any ideas?

Output 2 is a supervised output. If it sees your failing siren or wiring or nothing at all it will give you a trouble indication. Sounds like it's time for new wiring and a new siren.

Take the wires off of the terminals and place a resistor across them and see if the trouble goes away.

Also, regarding your wiring, take an ohmeter and measure across those wires. I'm betting you get an open circuit and the wires may have had to much current running through them (opened up somewhere).

What gauge of wire was being used for your siren? Also, what type/model of siren?

Also, look at post number four HERE.

I'll take a look at it this weekend if possible. I am not sure of the siren model, it came with the house and the wires just come into the demarc area. I might goto ratshack and pick one up to benchtest.

If the trouble does not go away after placing a resistor across the output 2 terminals, then the output 2 FET transistor on the M1 could be damaged and leaky causing the trouble.

What type of resistor would work best? Also, if the transistor is damaged how can that be fixed?

Unless you are good at soldering surface mount components, it will have to come back to the factory for repair.

I tried the EOL resistor and still get the Output 2 Trouble. Anything else I can try before sending in for repair?
