Software & FW Update

I ran into the same thing also with just the software update; firmware update was to 3.8A and a non issue. Tested and saw same with XPPro and W2003 Standard.

In this case it looks like the download completed, and the Setup.exe was successfully launched, but some error occurred while terminating the running copy of PC Access. Correct?

I am unable to duplicate this in house. Can you tell me more about the systems. Things like RAM, CPU, Clock rate etc. might be helpful in locating the problem.

FYI: At the point where the error is occurring your account files have been closed, they are actually closed before the download starts, so no data should be lost. Still I don't want to have any errors so I would appreciate any information than can help me track this down.

Hello Fred,

It always works; even with the error; is there anything in particular you want me to try the next time I upgrade?

Yes.

The basement W2003 box on the rack is a Pentium D; 2.66Ghz with 2Gb of RAM. The laptop is running XP on a core duo T7200 with 2 Gb of RAM and the desktop is similiar; running XP, core duo and 4 Gb of RAM. The W2003 server is running AVG server edition. The XP machines are running Malwarebytes and Avast.

My first thought was that the shutdown was taking too long, which does some times happen on some very slow systems, and the watchdog was forcibly killing some processes resulting in the error. Your systems seem to have enough RAM and horse power that they should run PC Access pretty well so I am not quite sure where to look. I will take a look at the shutdown sequence and timing but even if I fix it in the next release you will not see the change until the release after that.

Again, just to quell any concerns:
- all of your data is saved before the download begins
- the setup will not launch unless the download was successful
- after the setup is launched, the only thing PC Access does is to shut down.

So as I said there should not be an error and I will try to fix it, but the error is benign and your data is safe.

May not be applicable but Avast recently updated to 6.0.1289 from 6.0.1203
It broke the Administrative Console status updates in the ISY Administrative Console.
In my case by telling the Web Shield to Scan traffic from well-known browser processes only. Fixed the problem.
