UPB PIM Cable

Is there anything special about the cable that connects teh UPB PIM to the OPII? I could use it to be a few feet longer, otherwise I need to put in another outlet or move the Leviton can i just hung (and a bunch of other stuff). Argh.

Can I make my own? It looks like its 6 wires, but the Serial Connector (21A05-1) is 4 wire, so i'm not sure if the outer two are being used.

I personally have gotten it to work with just the 3 basic wires (TX/RX/GND) between a SAI PIM and an Elk M1. When using a PC, I think I had to use 4 wires, and this HAI KB article seems to confirm this:
