UPB PIM connection occasionally fails

i just bought a new pulseworx pim AND upgraded to the lastest upstart version on the sai home page. now when i try to use upstart to get status for program devices i find that the connection from my pc to serial pim drops out. i use a usb/serial driver to connect from my usb port via usb/rs-232 cable to my serial pim. never had this problem before anybody else experiencing this kind of problem?

When I started out with UPB a couple years ago I had problems using USB->RS232 adaptors. It would take 4 or 5 connection attempts before UPStart connect. I now have a real RS232 on my HA machine and haven't had a connect problem in years.
