Uplink 1500 and Speakers/Sirens

How do you hook up an Uplink 1500 to a M1-EZ8 with the speaker that it comes with.

The Uplink has to be hooked up to output 2 and
the global setting must be set to 12 volts.

If you hook up two speakers and the Uplink to output 2 neither
will function properly.

Is there a way to hook up the speaker(s) to output 3 and have both a fire
alarm and a burglary alarm? ( i.e. the different sounds)

I do have a elk-100 can this be used in some way?

There is a version of the Uplink that will connect to a M1XSP serial port expander and all the signals are sent through an expanded serial port. I do not know the Uplink model number but it should be one with a serial RS-232 port.

If you want two speakers on the M1, use outputs 1 and 2.

Write Rules to control output 3 to trigger the Uplink if that is the way you want to go:

Whenever any alarm is activated
Then turnon output 3 for 5 seconds

This is an example, but many combinations may be put together to trigger and reset output 3. ;)

Ok! I used the ELK-100 and attached it to output 3.

The ELK-100 will generate both a fire and burglar siren output.

The burglar is the default and by pulsing the Yelp (+) every 1 second, you
get a fire signal. Cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D

( Output 3 is a dry contact relay, so power had to be run to the relay)

Wella and with a few rules:

1. WHENEVER ANY BURGLAR ALARM, ANY AREA TURNS ON
THEN TURN (OUT3) ON

2. WHENEVER EVERY 1 SECONDS
AND ANY FIRE ALARM IS ACTIVE
THEN TOGGLE (OUT3)

3. WHENEVER EVERY 1 SECONDS
AND NO ALARM, ANY AREA IS ACTIVE
THEN TURN (OUT3) OFF

The project was a sucess.

The Uplink works great on (Out2) and the sirens speakers work
great on (Out3)

Thanks

We are going to have to start charging you for all those smilies you use in your posts. Where can we send the bill ( ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) )?

Can you share with us brief on how the Uplink works? I meant, does it require a monitor service? Do you buy a special or regular cell line with a mobile carrier? In summary, how is the operation and requirements in general.

Also, why did you need a separate siren driver (elk-100)?

Thanks,
elcano

The Uplink Service is provided by my monitoring company. (Monitronics)

The cost of monitoring is $9.95 per month.

The newest version that I found is the Uplink 1500 which fits
nicely in the ELK cell packs.

I used the ELK cell pack ELK-982K

The reason I used the cell phone device is because my monitoring
company has had very little consitent use of VOIP such as Vonage.

The Uplink service can only send limited signals and the source of
its signal is from the alarm output.

The alarm output has one sound for burglary and one for fire.

The uplink senses the number of pulses and then reports.

I found that the uplink needs all of the voltage that the EZ8 can provide
and that if used with sirens it will fail to send a "alarm" signal.

The EZ8 does not have 2 alarm outputs so hence the use of the ELK-100
which I attached to output 3 as described previously.

P.S. The Uplink works as fast or faster than an analog line.

Thanks,

Vaughn

Keep us updated on how the Uplink is working for you. It is a good alternative.
