Weird Temp. occurance

Just out of the blue I got notifications that 4 temp sensors were out of range. T5,6,7 and 8. It turns out that they switched from F to C by themselves. I have not made any changes to that board in over a week and they had all been set to F.
Pretty strange!

Thanks,
Tim

Thanks for the reporting,  The configuration is stored in a partition of the EEPROM, just running PLC code does not affect the temp sensor configuration, since they are stored in separate partitions.  What other things switched?

Nothing else switched or changed that I can see. Everything is and was working fine up to the point when Fahrenheit changed to Celcius on the 4 temp sensors. Even after the switch everything was working fine. I changed them back to Fahrenheit and all has been good since then.

It would have been interesting to see if you rebooted the board without changing anything if the settings would have reverted.

If this is a firmware problem, it will happen again.  How long have you been running before had problem, and how long have you been running after changed?
When you had problem, out of 8 temp sensors, four of them are without problem, four of them changed?

In the sensor EEPROM storage as well as in RAM, the unit F or C is part of structure that has other information about the temp sensor, like its serial ID number.  It is very strange if four structures only unit got changed, but sensor ID was not affected.

az1324, no doubt, it really took me by suprise and it was a hecktic day, I didn't even think about rebooting but I should have.

Cai, This board has been up and running flawlessly for a week or two. This was the first problem I have had with it. It has been running flawlessly since.

I have been going over in my head the events that took place before it happened. I had just received 3 boards back from you which were firmware updated. I opened Windows IE and typed in the address of this board to verify the address and firmware version. Once verified I changed the last 3 of the ip address in the address slot in IE to switch over to one of the new board addresses, without closing the window or anything. Once IE was displaying the new board info I made some changes to the General tab (changed IP, time etc.), then saved. Then typed in the last 3 numbers of the next IP address in IE address slot and made same changes to the next board.

About 4 or 5 minutes elapsed when I was notified of a problem with the temps. I logged back into the board and noticed t5,6,7,8 reading in C. When I clicked on the Temp Setup tab all the check boxes were checked for F. Went back to the main page and t5-8 were still reading C. Went back into Temp page and checked all the C boxes. Hit save. Then checked all the F boxes then hit save again. When I went back to the main page all readings were once again reading in F.

Not sure what caused the issue but could it have had something to do with opening the browser for that board, then just changing the address in the browser address bar to switch to another board then making changes on that board and saving then repeating with 2 other boards?

Browser cache gui pages, that could cause confusing when viewing from one board to another.  It is possible that from one board posted to another board.  When managing multiple boards, it is better doing one board at a time.

Are you saying it would be better to close the browser before switching to another board, does that clear the browser cache?

You don't have to close the browser, clear cache or not at close is a configurable option, however, it could take sometimes to finish. I would recommend that once you browse to a different board, always refresh the browser, so that force browser to read from the new board directly.
