Whole House Audio with Intercom

Hey Rob, its been a year, have you made any progress on this issue? Based on my research, the industry still hasn't produced an "automation friendly" intercom (HA: page all, HA: selective call, HA: selective receive - for voice recognition, and HA: station control - set Do Not Disturb at bedtime, etc.).

I kind of like the ComPoint, but it would definitely require some reverse engineering. The AudioShare also seems promising - maybe they'll even give up the control protocol.

Someone mentioned the poor looks of the OnQ intercoms as a problem.

Was this corrected?

Looks better than my current wall trash

But I guess anything would be a step up from this!

I think the OnQ system looks fine. My problem with OnQ is that is doesn't "integrate" with local music. The ComPoint has on-board relays to disable local music when the intercom is active.

The AudioShare (here is their upcoming station)

will also do local audio. You have to press some buttons to hear "loopback" the local source though. AudioShrae is a cool technology, but you can't control the source from the zones the way you can with some of the other multi-room systems. The AudioShare has an RS232 interface for setting up the units, but I don't know if you can do HA control with it.

I think I'll stick with ComPoint, but I need to hack the protocol to make it HA friendly...
