Homebrew would be the only option, however I honestly wouldn't go through the effort, as well as the grey code issues regarding separation for the wiring that would need to be connected to the transmitter.
Thanks for the info. I was thinking the wireless smoke would have a battery but was hoping I could find one that offered an A/C hookup in addition. This is how my current (non-wireless, non-networked) smoke detectors are built. Just figured I might as well try to use the A/C hookup since it is already there.
