HAI Omni Pro 2 and HiFi 2 question

Greetings,

Does anyone happen to know how far away the Omni Pro 2 and Hifi2 devices can be from one another, assuming I'll be making my own cable up between the two 6 pin jacks on the devices?

OR

Does anyone know what protocol they run between the devices to talk to one another?

This is a standard EIA-232 connection. You should be fine up to 50 feet or so.

Brian is correct. You can also get additional distance by using low capacitance cable(more expensive).

Another point is I believe the OmniPro II supports both rs-232 and rs-485. I think it is a jumper on the board. I don't know if HIFI2 supports rs-485. If it did that would get you more distance but may require different cabling.

If it's standard RS232 as eluded above, you can gain considerable distance by using Cat5 for the cable and the appropriate RJ45 to RS232 adapters. Hundreds of feet, minimum.
