HAI PIM with PC not working.

Help! I'm new to the whole home automation thing. I have a dell laptop with only USB ports, I'm using a USB to serial connector attached to a HAI 36A05-2 cable to a HAI UPB PIM 36A00-1. I'm using UpStart version 4.8 and I cannot communicate with the PIM. The status light stays solid red. If I unplug it and plug it back in, the status light blinks, then goes to steady red.

I check my laptop and it says the cable is on com 6, I have tried it on com 4 and com 1.

What else can I do or am I just missing the simple thing.

You can check the HAI Knowledge Base article below for help. We've found that some USB to serial adapters don't work well with UPStart. If the knowledge base article doesn't help you may want to try a different USB to serial adapter, such as the Keyspan USA-19H recommended in the article.
