MQTT Home Assistant GDO request for help

Modified a Sonoff basic here for a GDO button, closed door, open door, intermediate door and temperature sensor.
 
Using HA what is the best way to configure this device in configuration.yaml or a script?

Noticed that there is a HA MQTT function called cover which can be used for a garage door.

Probably, the simplest way would be to use an MQTT switch:

That's what's been working for me with another opener, not sure about the Sonoff. I was not even aware that the MQTT cover existed.
 
In any case, I'd use mosquitto_sub to see what messages flow between HA and the Sonoff.

Yes this is a custom SonOff firmware with hard wired reed switches / sensors on the top and bottom of the garage door plus using button for opening and closing door plus a DS18B20 1-wire temperature sensor.
 
I have it working right now using mcsMQTT in Homeseer.  Trying to replicate same in HA. 
 
This is a testing project as the GDO / Garage doors sensors are also wired to the alarm panel.

I've just been experimenting with MQTT with EXPHOME stuff.

Separately I have my doors in HA as covers (via MyQ).
 
If you can get an open/closed (or similar) status, I would set it up as covers, then the icons and indicators will be more natural.  I'm running Mosquitto on the HA instance.
