pc access "security stamp"

Hi zzazzles,

Thank you for noting that...

When I talk about compatibility, I am always referring to the currently release version. The article refers a version that is 3, almost 4 years old.

Since this was a new install the assumption was that it was a new version. I also mentioned how to get the latest version if you are reinstalling an only have an old CD. I probably should have started with "make sure you have the latest version..." and told them how to get it.

But just to be clear, the current release is compatible with everything from XP to 8, 32 and 64 bit.

You can always get the latest version by requesting a resent of you registration information as noted in my previous post.

If you are upgrading to a new PC you can do this:

After transferring your "...Documents\HAI\PC Access\" folder and sub folders to your new PC, browse to the "...Documents\HAI\PC Access\_download\" folder. Find and run the newest Setup_HAI_Dealer_PC_Access_3.exe installer.

Whenever PC Access checks for updates it downloads the latest installer and places it in the above mentioned directory. This is also convenient for machine upgrades or any time you need to reinstall PC Access.

Another benefit of using the above mentioned technique is that when you transfer the PC Access documents folder to the new machine you have all your old account files, and config files which also eliminates the "I forgot my security stamp" problem that started this thread.

I think this would make a good KB article...

I hope this is helpful.

Where's the security stamp stored?  Some a**hole decided he needed my laptop more than I did, so I'm using my 2006 era backup laptop until I can get a replacement.  :angry2: The security stamp I wrote down isn't what I evidently used on my desktop (and the missing laptop).  I've uninstalled/re-installed PCAccess several times, but it keeps finding the incorrect security stamp somewhere.  The list of possbile stamps is very finite, so it will be easy enough to fx if I can get rid of the incorrect one.

You don't need it really; just your registered serial number is all you need.

Use the HAI program upgrade or original setup file and install it fresh on a new PC; put in your serial number and connect to your panel via PCA serially / network wise and download the stuff from the panel.

I tested the above on my wife's computer which has never had HAI PCA installed on it.

1 - Found my originally registered serial number stuff
2 - installed the HAI PCA setup (upgrade) program on her PC
3 - put in registered name, company name and serial number
4 - it asked for code; left it blank
5 - password is password
6 - its now running a new registered version of PCA just fine.

You mentioned you have PCA.  Just install it and start from scratch downloading your last configuration from your panel.

As a safe practice, before I update to the newest version of PCAccess or Automation Studio, I go into the HAI downloads folder and make a copy of the current version so I can revert if there is an issue with the update.
Downloading will overwrite the current file in the folder since it keeps using the same filename.

In my experience, the software (both) is pretty good, the documentation is mediocre (AS documentation is pretty poor actually).

Yes, you can get your base config back this way, but you'll be missing all of your long descriptions and comments in your programming area.  Better than nothing, but still a PIA to lose that data.  My programming is much more readable with comments and long descriptions.

I just wish I could tell PC Access that I'm not interested in any other language firmware except English, and I'm also not interested in any other firmware file except for the OP II.  Such a big PITA to uncheck every check box whenever a new firmware comes out (downloading all the firmware files takes forever, as it seems the server where they're stored isn't all that quick).  6 years of doing this and it gets old.  Having some preferences I could set would be nice, or having all the firmwares unchecked by default would be cool.  Then I could just tick one box and be on my way.

I can't be the only one, right? :-)

Networkcrasher, I don't know if this will soothe you, but when you get to the firmware downloads, simply "right-click" on the "first" firmware file you DO want to download - this will leave that firmware checked and uncheck all of the others.  If there are others you want to download, you can simply click on them one-by-one.

To delete your security stamp on a computer, you need to delete the following file

PCA01.CFG

It is located in the following folder
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\HAI\PC Access

Once you delete the above file, the next time you open PCaccess it will prompt you to create a security stamp
(please remember that any files you previously created will not open if you change the security stamp)
