RC-2000 overkill?

Hey all,

I've been doing some reading on thermostats and I really like the featureset of the HAI products. Currently i have no HA equipment. But with things cooling down I'll be running cables throughout my house in the coming months and start moving forward in my quest for a nice HA setup.

My thermostat in my house is the original old unit (20 years old) but the furnace had been replaced in the past 5 or so years. I'd rather go for a nice thermostat now, than pickup a $50 programmable one and have to end up replacing it in 6 mo when I start my HA setup. My Furnace is only a single state unit however, so I'm wondering if there is any benefit to getting a multistage thermostat such as the RC-2000...or If i'd be better off just saving a few bucks and going with the RC-1000. Are there any other differences i'm missing between the two? I can't see upgrading my furnace for several years since its so new and functioning fine, just wish the original homeowner didn't skimp on the system! ;)

Thanks!

Matt,

I am not a thermostat expert, but based on my little experience, I would recommend against getting the multistage thermostat, unless you plan on upgrading your furnace soon. In fact, getting a thermostat that doesn't match your furnace 100% might make the install more complicated/confusing.

Hopefully someone with more experience can chime in here.

I've been researching the stats as well. The main difference between RC2000 and RC1000 if you're going with a single stage furnace is the ability to have humidity sensing with also humidifier/dehumidifier control. The RC2000 shouldn't be a problem to hook up to a single stage furnace. Just 4 wires rather than 6 wires. I'm getting all RC2000s for my setup, 7 in total, all connected to a Honeywell Zone Controller to control dampers. Hope this helps.
