Receiver + Nuvo integration

I am considering a new receiver for a home theater. I am somewhat partial to the Denons and have been looking at the AVR-2113CI specifically. One of the things I would like to do is integrate the receiver into the Nuvo as a source so that I can listen on the overhead speakers in other rooms.

It is my understanding that Denon, and many other brand models in this class, have a limitation on Zone 2 capability where Zone 2 output on the receiver is for analog sources only. One of the commonly suggested workarounds is to run parallel set of analog audio connections from your source devices (cable box, blue-ray, etc..) to the receiver so you can get the source audio on Zone 2 speakers (in this case input to Nuvo). This may be possible for some devices but not all such as in the case of an Apple TV. Wondering if any of you have done something like this and how you were able to overcome this limitation?

Thanks.

couldn't you just use a splitter on the AppleTV and send one to the Denon, other to NuVo?

I've done that with my Sage box.

Sorry, just realized the Apple TV only has optical audio out. My Roku has both HDMI out and analog out, and all ports are on concurrently. I currently run HDMI to my TV, analog audio to the NuVo, so I can listen either via the crappy TV speakers or the 2.1 in the MBR.

You know, I completely forgot that the ATV2 has optical audio out. I guess I could use a Gefen DIGIAUD-2-AAUD or a DD-2-AA to convert the digital signal to analog audio. Since this is the only source (so far) that I have that doesn't support analog audio out of the box, this is not that bad.

Make sure it'll drive both HDMI & optical concurrently (although it really should). Otherwise it'd be simpler to sell the ATV and get a Roku (unless you buy TV/movies from the iTunes store)

I to have a similar setup as you i have a Nuvo system an in my den and  i am using a Pioneer receiver for surround sound. I use zone 2 for my living room. I use a HTPC for my video in the den and a cable box. All audio is connected using the optical connection to the receiver. I use Casatunes software runing on a computer for all my audio source. I use one of the non amplified output of the nuvo amplifier and connect it to the CD input of my receiver. Now i am able to play music in the main room or zone 2 . Casatunes software control the receiver to turn it on, switch sorce to CD select which zone for my Nuvo amplifer or which sorce on the nuvo amplifer via my Ipad or Iphone.

According to Apple forum searches, looks like it should. Only one way to find out for sure....

Thanks...similar to what I am trying to do but in the other "direction".
