RedRadio - RelayTouch RT2718

One more question (for now)

Do you have any distribution channels set up for these yet (e.g. Smarthome)? I would guess you guys as the developer/manufacturer don't want to spend your days filling orders of 6-8 small panels plus a server.

Thanks

sdmike,

The 12.1 inch monitor cannot be rotated, it is simply an LCD display. The viewable area is approx 9 3/4 wide by 7 1/4 tall. I think this product's primary advantage is in the fact that it is just a touch monitor, and we dont try to put a PC behind it. IMHO the PC part belongs back in a closet where it can be more powerful, accessible, and upgradable, etc.

The single-gang LCD's must be portrait mode, since 8 of them in that orientation makes exactly 640x480, the desktop size of the video card.

I hope this answers your questions.

For the large screen:

With the right video card/driver, you should be able to rotate the Windows display so you can mount it in portrait mode if you want.

If the touchscreen drivers also allow rotation (I've seen some that do), then you are all set.

Thanks for the info.

This really looks like a winner Dwayne, especially for installations where you need more than just a couple of touch screens. With most of the cost being in the server this could be real cost effective when scaled.

The real question is, who will be the first to stream TV or on-line poker to the light switch in the bathroom.

Also, if I am not mistaken, there are some larger LCD's in the works which will basically be one of those small LCD's, but doubled/trippled/... in size, so it still uses the same backend, so this would address your large LCD needs.

That would likely work well. I know you can make the small panels do everything, but it might be a matter of saving a few panel "clicks" and improving the display/navigation if you can use a larger panel in a couple of spots.

I can clearly see a solution where I'd use a larger panel by entry doors, and the small panels everywhere else.

Dwayne, when can I get started outfitting my house as your "demo" site?

REALLY SWEET!
I LIKE!

Can't wait until you get further down the road and can get some pricing information out.

After seeing the Star Wars trailer, it reminded me. Are there any provisions for sound? I don't expect much from the smaller units, except possibly beeps to call attention, ie CNN breaking news, or beeping during the alarm arming countdown. Or user definable keyclicks. For some reason I've found that older people like keyclicks.

Some type of full speaker capability out of the larger units would be nice.

I'll take two wall mount touch screens and 12 keypads...thank you

That brings up another point. Do you plan on selling the smaller screens in packages of 1 card + 8 single gang units, or would everything be sold individually?

And another question.

Since eight displays are all just tiles from one larger display, and that display has only one mouse cursor, do two people fight for the cursor when they try to operate two different screens at the same time? Can I goof on my wife? :D

A serious note about WAF.....

The comments we have received, from EHX 2004 in Long Beach, the Consumer Electronics Show, and others that have seen the product, the non-enthusiast side of the family (how's that for PC) particularly likes this product because:

- It doesnt look like a piece of technology on the wall,

- It matches standard light switch wallplates, and

- there is really nothing to learn.

As to how we will package them, we will provide them separately, and with bundles for one controller and 4 LCD's, and one controller and 8 LCD's.

About the touch control--technically there can only be one "touch" at a time for all 8 keypads. Realistically this will only be an issue when you are "dragging" something like a volume slider control. While a drag operation is going on (e.g. dragging), then the other LCD's are locked out only for the duration of the drag. Individual touches on multiple LCD's are actually queued for a small amount of time, so even in near simultaneous use you shouldnt see any problem.

sdmike,

We wont be showing the prototypes again for now. The next opportunity will probably be the EXH fall show. We are currently manufacturing the first batch of the product, and will make them available for sale around the end of March. This production run will be primarily for OEM's, software developers, and other early adopters.
