smoke detector basics

Starting to wire it up, have another question. Do you then program OUT3 to activate when zone 16 is violated? Also, SAUX is switched so SDs could be reset. How do I switch it, could it be programmed into one of the F keys on the keypad. Is "11=Fire Verified" used for that?

thank you

1) Not exactly. You have output 3 active on fire alarm. This will cover any fire situation that you might add to the alarm in the future that isn't zone 16.
2) Power cycling the smokes is done through the keypad menu. No need to asign it a function key (not sure you even can, never tried it)

Figured out how to reset smokes thru a keypad. Output 3 is programmable so I think I need to make it active when zone 16 is violated and put 12v thru n.o. side of it. Don't see how it could be done otherwise.

You have it turn on during a fire alarm, not zone 16 violation. Zone 16 is only one zone, you could end up with other fire equipment on other zones. Also it is guaranteed to stay on until you manually reset the alarm.

got it, in a hind side having tandem ring is a bit too much given the fact that you get fire alarm announcements from every speaker in the system

Tandem ring is usually code. You really do want every bedroom to have the sounder inside of it. Children especially can sleep through almost anything.

Tandem ring is code, however some inspectors I know of have waived the requirement in the past if <85 dB is maintained at pillow height in sleeping areas, but that has started to be less accepted by most AHJ's and tandem ring is universally allowed.
