Who has Nuvo Music Port?

NuvoPete:

Thanks for stopping in...I've bought an E6G, T2FXG and MP this january and have been playing with them since...Generally things work well, but i've had to call tech support a few times. Prof. Killowatt seem to be very knowledgeble and a nice guy, he's a great help.

I called with an issue where if the MP is connected via serial to the E6G the tuners in the T2FXG start power cyling every few minutes when they are not in use. This means that are essentially always on and thus not very energy efficient (one of the reason i got the E6G over the GC) and my other concern is that the power relays will get many mnay cycles on them (maybe like 100 a day) and may thus prematurely fail. If this happens to occur right outside the warrenty period i woudl be quite upset. Tech support said he would note the issue but no ticket number was given or anything like that. I have gone through extensive troubleshooting on this issue, isolating keypads, disconnecting anything that may have undue influence, even the MP is not connected via serail to the server during the test. In the end the only things connected are all Nuvo gear (not even autonomic software) connected through Nuvo NuvoNet patch cable (which I checked with a LAN tester) and this still occurs. Since it doesnt power cyle when the tuners are in use it doesnt hinder my actual usage, but i would think it's something that needs to get fixed.

Mavic, Did you found a solution for this issue? I have the same kind of setup (E6G+T2DAB+MP) and Nuvo said to me it was a 'known bug', but never came back with a solution... Maybe you fixed it?

With the latest firmware for all my equipment the issue seems to have gone away. I don't spend enough time in the basement to confirm 100% but i'm fairly sure.

I have another question. Is there a way to have both the musicport and a second seial connected to be able to configure the GC? Since there is only one serial on the GC that can be used for these tasks...

Not that I know off..I've been having to replug the GC (E6G in my case) directly to serial rather than MP for Firmware updates and config. Doesnt need to be done often..but still a bit annoying.

Thanks Mav. A bit of a pain to have to unplug etc. As an update, I have determined that I do, in fact, have access to Pandora via the Musicport client or Mirage, or the web interface, but not the keypads. You can say "thumbs up", "thumbs down", or skip, but there is no selection on the keypad for Pandora Radio, and your stations do not appear. This is different than the demo of Mirage, which not only allowed you access to XM Radio, but allowed you to select Pandora and all stations you had created, from the keypad. Note there is still no option for Radiotime or XM Radio. It turned out the reason it wasn't showing up for me previously is I'm in Canada, so I had to run it through my US proxy in order for it to show up.

uhmm....how did you managed this? I got nothing through the WebGUI, Keypads or otherwise. I'm using the latest MCS (it downloads the most current on a re-install) version 2.5.5024.99 and all the current Nuvo Firmware that i know off.

Use the MusicPort version from NuVo's site (sounds like what you have). On the MusicPort Client interface (PC version - haven't checked the web GUI but it should be the same thing), select the MusicPort source. Then you should see "Radio" as a MusicPort button (album/artist/playlist/radio), and under that will be the Pandora option and the setup pieces. It won't show up on the keypad menus, and it doesn't show up in the MCS Config tool.

OK WE HAVE LIFTOFF...

Very strange...as jautor said the Pandora options are working when you actually install the Music Port Client App it doesn't work through the WebUI or the MCS.

Now for the odd thing...once i had installed the Music Port Client App on one of PC's (not the server..) all of the sudden the WebUI Pandora works too and the keypads 'action' buttons show the options (make new stations, like, dont like, etc).

So this is looking pretty promising...not on the figure out how to make this all happen though the serial protocol so i can turn it on with CQC. B) Anybody got that far yet?

Forgive me guys - can you post a screenshot or something? I have the latest Nuvo MCS, and have installed the Music Port client locally on the HTPC. I do see a "Radio" button, when I select one of my two MusicPort sources, but when I select the RADIO button, I just get a blank screen on the Music Port client.

Am I missing something? I have 2 Musicport sources setup with the MCS Config.

what country are you in?

Awesome - thanks for the shots. And I think you nailed it charlie - I'm in Canada. I'll try setting up a proxy tonite after work to test.

Cheers,
Scott

I'm also in Canada - and I was getting the blank screen as you are. Try setting up PureVPN - it's only $5 a month and a great service.

Charlie..those screen caps look different from mine..are you using some sort of skin or is that the original autonomic version rather than the Nuvo repackaged?

It looks like Autonomic's Mirage 2.0. I really liked the abilty to change skin options with it, but I tried it for awhile but found the skins a bit too dark.

Gents..

My music port is connect by serial to PC and with another serial to my Nuvo E6G (similar to a GC) head unit. I am noticing something now i had not noticed before...

When using the webGUI for the Music Port to turn zones on and off and other such action the system does not respond to the first command if it was off. For example if i go to zones and switch a zone on..i have to do it twice. After that all commands work fine.

To me it seems like it needs a 'wake up' and then it's ready to play.

I hadn't noticed this before but was having other issues so wasn't focusing on it either. However i had an issue of my tuner power cycling which Nuvo told me was due to the MP 'polling' the system which was temporarily turning the tuners on when the system itself was off. This was fixed with the latest MP firmware..but i wonder if that same fix introduced this issue.

Anybody else seeing this behavior? Maybe it's a coincidence..but i also didn't noticed it until i started using Pandora...

On a good note...I've tested the serial connection via a Serial Server (Quadtech unit) and direct and there's no difference...my tuner serial control also seems to work fine via the serial server (IP<>serial). This helps me in my quest towards virtualization...

Has anybody got the MP running in a virtual machine of any kind? If the serial connection is not a problem then the sound will likely be. My next step is to get a cheap USB based 5.1 audio device. Virtualbox lets you pass USB device to guest systems...if that works then we're in business.. just wondering if anybody else is on the same crazy path..

I am loving the Pandora support..still trying to figure out how to get some sort of control via CQC over it.
