Who has Nuvo Music Port?

The problem with iTunes on a vista x64 was a software bug. I downloaded the beta to restore.

Anyone have luck with Pandora and/or XM Radio?

I 'm finally getting around to setting up my musicport and I'm having all sorts of problems with the software install. I've tried installing from the disk on two different Windows XP Pro SP3 machines, 32 bit, with Net2.0 and Visual libraries installed, but as soon as I enter my serial number the software immediately reports "No install is currently available", and closes. I've checked the version on the disk that Nuvo provided and it says it's MCS 2.0 (under the executable properties). So I downloaded the Trial version of MCS2.0 from Autonomics website, tried to install it, and while it does create the directories, upon restart it has deleted all the directories, nothing in the start menu - like it was never there. So I then downloaded version 1.6 from Autonomics website, tried installing on two different machines again, it crashes as soon as you try to run it. I can't believe how bad this software is. I'm at my wits end, about to return the Musicport and give up. Does anyone have any wisdom to offer on this install?

Thanks

CB

Charlie,

Don't return it...trust me I went through the same thing. The disk that came with the Music Port didnt' work! I mean come on. But I downloaded the *NUVO* music port software from their prozone and it installed ok. Try that and if it doesn't work send Autonomic an email asking for support...they are alot more adept at helping when it comes to software problems.

Charlie, hard to believe you'd give up without even calling Nuvo Tech Support. I think a lot of professionals would have called them at the first hint of a problem. The Nuvo techs I've encountered have been very helpful.

Do you have the configurator on the same PC?

That error sounds familiar - I think I got that error several weeks ago, when trying to install MCS without .NET on my office PC. Or, I received that error when trying to install .NET on my office PC where I didn't have admin rights and the Windows Installer would not accomodate the .NET install.

I have a feeling it's a problem with .NET, and not with the MCS. Reboot after .NET install?

I was having the same problem ( i think i described it earlier in the thread, where it would install, ask for a reboot, then all the files would be gone ).. i couldn't pinpoint the problem to a particular file or anything, but from how i was able to get around it, neurorad is right on. To solve it, i would have to manually uninstall .NET and also the extra things the Music port installs the VB thing with ATL support. Then let the Nuvo or autonomic installer install .NET 2.0 and the VB ATL things by itself.. don't use the ones directly from Microsoft or windows update.. and on another note, don't let it update them as well, there was a new update on windows update called .NET 3.5 family update which updates .NET 1.X, 2.X and 3.X, but it seems to break a working install or hinder the install as well. The autonomic beta didn't seem to be affected by this problem, so whatever it was seemed to have been fixed.. the link for the beta is on an earlier page in t he thread..
I can definetly understand the frustration, the install is very finicky before it works right, and then once you get it working make sure to make a system restore point, (i did and was able to revert to it when i noticed the 3.5 family update messed it up). The folks at autonomic seem pretty good about responding / helping fix problems, hopefully in the new nuvo version a lot of these kinks will be ironed out.

:( Forgets, thanks so much.

I'm really glad I'm not the first here!

Picked up a few DVC speakers, and my 3.5/RCA cables from Monoprice this week - all set for the install.

Should I configure the Nuvo GC before the MP install, or both together? 4 Sources from the PC - no other components planned in the immediate future (old receivers could be used for FM, as needed, but my favorite FM stations stream over the 'net). I'll eventually have a paging input for source 6, but that's after the alarm goes in. I'll get a Nuvo tuner if MP doesn't come through with Sirius.

Actually I had contacted Nuvo support, they said they'd get back to me. That was on Wednesday. I phoned again thursday, they took a message and said a ticket has been logged. I tried Autonomic email tech support, they asked for my reg key and version, I have not heard back. I've done everything suggested here, even did a fresh install on one of my boxes. Now I've got it to the point where the software is somewhat installed, but crashes every 5 minutes. this is the download from Nuvo ProZone. I'm terrified to try the beta from autonomic again as that seemed very flaky and crashed immediately upon startup. Even with the Nuvo version *installed* and crashing every 5 minutes, the keypads can see the source but it constantly says "connected to source", "Connecting to source", "Source not found". It's all setup correctly in configurator, firmware at 2.57. Even the music port client doesn't connect to it properly....

Neurorad,

I would setup the GC before you install the Music Port. There are some things like naming inputs, volume levels, etc that are useful to have done when the MP gets hooked up. For 4 inputs I assume you have a 7.1 sound card? If its a 5.1 deal then 3 is the max number of sources.

Charlie,

It's hard to believe Autonomic hasn't got back to you. I've had to contact their tech support 3 times, and I always get the automatic replay back within 2 or so hours. After I fill that out, i've gotten a solution to all my problems within 2 working days. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like Autonomic or Nuvo really follow this thread anymore, but maybe one of them will see it and come to the rescue.

I bought a PC with a 7.1 sound card.

BUT I bought the 3.5mm/RCA cables from Monoprice - 'upgraded'/more expensive cables ($5 instead of $3), and the 3.5 mm connectors are too large to fit 4 across the PC outputs.

I have a single smaller 3.5 mm/RCA cable that fit between 2 of the larger ones, and I put a new, 4th 3.5mm/RCA cable into my Amazon cart, but it won't be here for another week (free super saver shipping). So I'll be setting up with 3 sources to start.

So that's a warning to others - don't buy the Monoprice (or other brand) 'higher end' 3.5mm/RCA cables - they won't fit. 3 across the PC outputs.

Thanks for the tip on the GC first.

What did people name the MP inputs? PCA, PCB, PCC?

Update: Ok so after many installs, removals, reinstalls, and repairs of the MCS software and the dot.net I have the software somewhat stable. My GC can see it but I'm still having issues. First, my motherboard is a gigabyte GA965P-DS3 which claims to have "Intel® High Definition Audio enables 8 channel premium digital sound". One time under config of the MCS the "Realtek HD Audio system" showed up and I was able to configure 3 source steams for the musicport. There was a problem though. I would set zone A playing from source 1 and a second zone B from source 2, but the source 2 audio would also play over top of the source 1 audio in Zone A. I assumed I had an issue with the sound card not being able to split the stream, and that still may be the case, but I can't test that because I went back into the MCS to check the configuration and the software crashed. I rebooted and the "Realtek HD Audio System" no longer shows up, and I can only configure one source stream. If I try to add an additional stream the Keypads and the Music Port Client can't see any streams. Has anyone else experienced this? Again it could be the motherboard not supporting the split streams, but I'm not sure...

thx

Hi CB...i hadnt visited this thread in a while and am sorry to hear about the troubles...I thought my MP install was a bit messy, but nothing compared to what you guys went through

I have a giabuyte mobo as well EP45-UD3R i think. I developed the same audio channel issue recently...i don't know when it started. Go through your sounds card properties...what you'll see if that some of the channel are not getting properly assigned to the actual outputs.

My system has been saying i have a HD definitions.yadayada driver issue forever..but it had been working ok...

I sort of fixed it by making the MP think there is 3 sources and then setting the audio card for quadraphonic (2 sources). This sort of works, but the if the number of MP channel and the number of physical channel don't match the GUI does some funny things when loading.

I havent spent too much time on it...it's just my wife and I in the house and we don't really play more than 1 stream at a time very often...I'll need to come back to it at some point. Just wanted to let you know that you're not alone on this issue.

With regards to the general install maybe i accidentally did things the right way...or maybe it's all different coz i run Win2k3 server...

I recently added a 2nd audio card (first one is technically on board) since even if you don't use all channel of the 7.1 (which i don't ) you cannot use the remaining channels for anything else it seems. I wanted TTS from CQC. I bought a $30 diamond audio card and ran it to Input 6 (paging input in the E6G)...thats all working very well and didnt cause any new problems.

I know it shoudlnt be this hard, but you'll get her sorted out at some point...then definetely image or make restore point as suggested.

awesome..thanks...what the hell is going on there that their support path is a dead end?

CB.. still having the issue of other MP channels blending into one another?

I played with my setup some today..it turned out i had it temporary fixed by just having only 1 channel... :(

I have the MP set for 2 channels...and through advanced setup set it for quadraphonic... for some reason it pick front left/right and rear left/right as the channel...whereas if i set the realteak driver to quadraphonic it pick front left/right and Center/Sub... so that wasn't working. By keeping the MP set for quadrafonic but setting the realtek software to 6 channel i was able to use front L/R and center/sub and life is good again...you bet i made an acronis image at this point...hahaha

The HD audio thing is still listed in my device manager as having issues...but it doesnt bother me and things seem to be working...
