debug lights turning on HLC w omnipro 2

Hi,

Just bought a house which has omnipro ii.

I have a lights which come on seemingly unprovoked within the house.  I have pc access and there are no programs which are doing this.

Is there a way I can see the command traffic to the light switches?  The switches are HLC.

Instead of looking at the traffic, you need to find the device generating the traffic.  Lights can be turn on each other, but there are also UPB controller timers that can run a schedule. Disconnect the UPB interface to the Omni Pro II to verify it is not turning on your light. If it is not, look around for one of these timers. They should have an LCD display. Can be plugged in anywhere. The most common one looks like this:

Download UPStart for free, the UPB programming and diagnostics software.
You'll need a UPB serial interface to interface with your computer.

Fire up UPStart and open the log.
You'll need to know your UPB network number and PIN
The log records all UPB (HLC) traffic on the network including sending units and responses.

A Western Mountain RUC also has a built in timer.

Is there anything else in your equipment cabinet/room attached to a UPB serial PIM?

I use macbook air.  would any of the usb - rj11 connectors work for UPStart?

thanks,

The only thing I have seen connected to the UPB is the op2.

Does the UPB store links between devices, or is all the connection info for devices stored within the op2?  ie, could a motion sensor be tripping it via linking?

thanks for the help,

UPB is such that any device can link to and control any other device, but in practice, you don't find many devices that transmit links.  In theory, a UPB motion sensor could transmit to a UPB light, but I've never seen a UPB motion detector.  Other than timers, there is a device from Simply Automated called an I/O Module UMI-32. This can generate UPB signals in response to contact closures.

UPStart is a Windows program, but it will run on a Mac with Boot Camp, or Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion.

Nothing stores the UPB traffic that I know of other than a computer running UPStart with the log open.

The OPII doesn't store zone on/off except for things that trip alarms or individually programmed messages you tie to zones.

Each individual UPB device stores the links it transmits and the links it responds to.

Have you been able to narrow down what actions are triggering the unexpected behavior?

You are absolutely sure the OP has no timed events, no flags, no zones, no buttons that have UPB (HLC) links paired to them?

Not sure, don't understand the system enough to be sure.  I have pc access, and automation tab is empty.  Under scenes tab, there are UPB links, but they look  rather standard....ie room on/off, and room a,b,c,d.  likewise for the HLC scenes it looks rather standard.

How would I got about confirming no zones have links paired to them?   I don't see anything interesting under the flags item...they just have Unit 393, 394, 395, etc and no voice.

I have unplugged the op2 from the UPB for the evening to see if that effects it.

Did you download the program in the OPII to PCAccess?

If not then its possible there is a program stored in it and you just aren't seeing it in PCAccess.

Can rule that out. I have been up/downloading with controller. Also wrote a program which worked. Have since cleared it out.

If there are no programs in the Omni it has to be something else sending links.

If you have room controllers and turn on a light with room commands they will turn on multiple lights.

Do these things happen at set times?  Like you notice at 9 PM every night something is turning on?

Or is it after you have turned one light on, something else somewhere in the house is coming on as well?

In the end, you will need to get UpStart installed, do a network discovery, and download the programming of all of your UPB devices.  It will even find things that are hidden away somewhere that might be causing your problem.

Ok, last night I unplugged the UPB(used by op2) from the wall and still had some lights turned on during the night.

I have not seen any other of the UPB schedulers in the house.

I have ordered a usb to rj11/45 cable, so hopefully i can connect my macbook air to the UPB and use Upstart.

I haven't logged the occurrences but it isn't super consistent, though I'd say at night it happens more often.  Yes, I'll get UpStart going as soon as I can.

thanks,
