Leopard / PC Connection

Well, I got them today. Can someone point me in the right direction to find an easy-to-follow setup for the pinouts?

TIA
Jim

Well, if it's like the Ocelot you only need pins 2 and 3 crossed and pin 5 straight through on the "D" 9-Pin connector.

It doesn't really matter what Cat5E lines you use.

Here is another tip. Route the unused pins to the back and of the connector and expose them outside of the plastic shell. This way you can use those spare wires for something else.

I am running three serial devices over one Cat5e using this method. An Ocelot, Caddx Security Panel, and a PH Anderson Analog to Digital Board. (I "share" pin 5 with the Caddx and PH Anderson board as each device uses pins 2, 3, & 5).

Just ring everything out with an ohmeter to make sure made the proper connections.

I am already planning on doing that. I have the RLY8-XA relay switch that I am using for speakers and rather that using the TW523 to control it via x-10, I will use the spare wires to connect CONN A&B between it and the Leopard (since the relay box is downstairs with the server)

Killing two birds with one stone...

Actually, between an Ocelot or an original Leopard 1, pins 2 and 3 are not crossed over, but wired straight: 2 to 2, 3 to 3 and 5 to 5. For a Leopard II, there is no DB9 connector at the Leopard end but you can use the supplied cable (with the board connector at one end) from the back of the Leopard and then consider the DB9 end of that cable as if it was an Ocelot or Leopard 1 for the connections explained above.

Wow Guy;

I am not one to doubt you but I was positive that I wired the Ocelot the same as my Caddx system which has pins 2 and 3 crossed. I'm going to have to ohm that cable out for sure! Thanks for the correction. :)

I made a serial cable out of phonewire just several weeks ago, where I did what Guy mentioned: 2-2,3-3 and 5-5, which works with my Elk M1EZ8 and Ocelot.
