M1PCSPIM quits

I’ve been HA addicted for about a year and using for about 3 months.

So far so fun …but many dollars and many hours later I’m stuck.

Problem:
UPB Link (LRNormLvl) works fine when called from the M1 and ElkDroid. But as soon as I use the rocker of a switch (US2-40), to transmit the same link, the PIM will no longer respond. To any command. It’s as if the ELK and PIM (M1PCSPIM) lose communication.

Tried:
Calling the UPB link from a rule while in this “disconnected” state does not work either. No status light activity on PIM. *This removes ElkDroid from the suspects list.

Tried setting the Receive Sensitivity at the PIM to Low. No Change.

(Re)Exported/Imported lighting config. No Change

Misc. Info:
Switch transmits link as Top & Bottom Super Rocker preset.

Switch also receives link and operates local load.

Link operates (2) US1-40, (1) US2-40

Unacceptable Solution:
Unplug the PIM or reset the M1. PIM operates normally until link is initiated at the switch again.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Do you have any problems with that specific PIM when you hook it up to the computer and use UPStart?

Im using a SA PIM for upstart programming. From what I've read, the ELK branded PulseWorx PIM is not for programing.

Hypothetically:
Power and data are documented on the M1PCSPIM side but I cant seem to locate a pinout diagram for the RS232 at the computer end. My assumption is that inside this is little more than a PulseWorx PIM-R so your testing scenario might work. I'll continue to search for a diagram.

In the meantime you've planted the idea of bypassing the M1DBHR hub and connecting to the screw terminals of the onboard RS-485 bus. Does the board bus work independently of the hub? Can they both be used at the same time?

The M1PCSPIM cannot be used with the UPStart software. Forget that!
Before you go much further use ElkRP to check what firmware is contained in the M1PCSPIM.
There is a firmware update version 1.0.48 dated Oct 2010 that you can download from the Elk website. I can't remember specifically what it addressed but it just might be related to your situation.

I somehow missed you had a M1PCSPIM, so yes, forget about hooking it up to the PC. Definitely try the firmware update, if that doesn't work, I would contact PCS.

Booyah!

Went to the Elk site and looked for firmware updates prematurely. I hadn't looked at the current version, just ran to the site to download.

..couldn't understand until I found that it enrolls as an M1XSP. Updated and working as expected.

Changes effective with this firmware release:
1. UPB - Added routine to automatically reset the external I/O lines on the micro in case of an accidental lockup.
This was done primarily for the benefit of the M1PCSPIM.

Thx much.
