QSE-100 and a modem

I bought two of the Quatech units, and I'm starting to get things hooked up to them. I have an Elk M1EZ8 hooked to it and working, and now I want to hook an old modem I have so I can get caller id info in the VM that I'm using as a test HA server. It's an old US Robotics modem.

I hooked it up to the 100D, but I can't get a response from it using hyperterm. I'm using it on a Vista machine (I copied hyperterm from an xp machine).

So, has anyone tried hooking a modem to your PC? And if you got it to work, did you have to do anything special?

Have you confirmed that hyperterm works on your Vista machine? I'd be a little surprised if that is all it took. I'd suspect that a lot of the internal programming is different.

You might need to google for a hypertem alternative.

I did Google it and that's where I found that if you copy the hyperterm exe and a dll to Vista you can use it on Vista. Just to be certain though I'm going to look for another terminal app to try with.

I did find if you go into Device Manager and select the modem properties, that dialog box has a button to query the modem. I get no response there either. I think the modem is still good. It's been "retired" for a while now, but when it went into retirement it was working.

Try Putty, it's portable, and supports serial communications. Are you using the Quatech driver, or something like HW VSP (and a raw TCP session)?

I'm using the Vista drivers from Quatech. I'll give Putty a try. I wasn't using Raw tcp, I left it at normal. I'll give that a try as well.
