I know there are a couple systems out there what is the best one poeple Have used I want to use it with a HAI and tell if cars are comming home and if items, like my trailer leave the properity. What is the renge and battery life? how long does it tak to trigger when something is in range or moves out of range?

For the trailor application, you may want something more reliable like a motion sensor to know when it is being moved without your permision. As an example, hook a wireless security sensor to a mercury switch such that it is triggered whenever the mercury switch is moved and is no longer level.

I like that Idea I think that is what I am goig to do. After all they need to pick it up to drop it on a hitch.

While it is possible to make RFID-like technology work at longer ranges(more thana few feet or so), it is not the best technology for that due to the large power consumption of the transmitter and the requirement for active RFID tags(with batteries). At this point you may as well go with other battery powered wireless transmitters. If you are running a business and are OK having a big transmitter/receiver running at high power all day, no problem. For home use you are better off having a few small antennae scattered through your house and using a different technology to cover the yard, etc.

I was also hoping to use it to see if our cars where approaching or in the gurage. etc. Now if I could only find a way to implant one on the wife in her sleep. Hope she doesn't read this ;)

How far away do you need to see your cars coming? Several methods have been covered here from magnetic sensors, motion sensors (in the car), DS10As (My fav) and more...

How about a little more information about using the DS10As. I tried a quick search and didn't find anything.

I have been using RFID (known as the CheaperRFID equipment) for about 18 months. This has been covered on the Homeseer BB in great detail. I have 3 40 meter transmitters. These devices have a range in the 300' distance with the proper antenna on the receiver. The transmitters use 2 cr2032 batteries. I modified them to use 4 AA batteries and I have over a year on one set of batteries. There are 2 HS plugins for these devices. I use them in my cars and they work with 99% accuracy, and the price is right.

Where can you buy these? The links in the forum point to a site that is now redirected to www.cheapertronics.com, which seems to have some receivers, but no transmitters and not much info on purchasing. I can't find them anywhere.

You'll have to search the web site, I believe someone is selling the equipment, I don't know who. I purchased my stuff 18 mos ago. I think they are also available on ebay. If you search the HS site you should find places to buy.

Here is the link to the website.
