Stupid Newbie needs UPB Lighting help

Have you downloaded UPStart yet? If so, here is a link to a sample upstart file I shared several years ago. You do not need a PIM to view this file. This sample is from a home with 3 to 11 loads per room. Every room has one SAI US240 with top rocker and 4 buttons on the bottom. The US 240...

Looking for a simple wall timer.

Even if you don't have any UPB THIS switch from Simply Automated can be set up to turn off after manualy turned on. Here is the switch on Automated Outlets web site. The switch can be setup to operate incandescent to a any dim level or switch florescent lighting. Dave

    Do you use Links?

In another thread a comment was made that UPB, like other technologies has a "popcorn effect". I was wondering if you use links or send individual commands to switches? A link signal lasts less then a second and response by any device takes place instantly. You can even dim a whole house...

If I can't do UPB, what is next best?

Steve, What "Popcorn effect" with UPB? With scenes (links) all UPB devices work simultaneously. Dave

    No signal in PIM/Upstart

You might try a factory reset. 5 presses, 10 presses, 2 presses. This will usually clear any problems with the PIM. Dave

upstart cannot see new devices or give me signal

If a UPB device just doesn't want to work it may need a "factory" reset. This will often bring it back to life. Depending on the manufacture the reset is different. I know SA products require 5 taps... 10 taps... 2taps (or presses of the setup button) I have not needed this very often, but when...

    Elk and UPB

" I get very strange results. Turning a lamp on or off is intermittent. Sometimes the module turns on or off as expected and other times it will not respond at all. Since this sounds like a phase coupling issue I made sure the module and the PIM were on the same circuit and still have the same...

    New Dude

B-Rad, UPB is designed to operate without a centeral controller. Once the units are programmed with UPStart. Each device knows what to do when a command comes accross the powerline. The only thing missing "was" timers. Now there are switches that offer timer options. I have not used any of...

Which system for me? Lighting for today, with the potential for further HA.

I think another big difference is signal strength. Insteon uses the same signal voltage (4 volts) as X-10, where UPB uses 40volts pulses. Dave

Which system for me? Lighting for today, with the potential for further HA.

I think one of the most importaint features UBP has over Insteon is the Free software setup Application, UPStart. This is a powerful tool for setup, trouble shooting, signal strengh amd noise meter. With UPStart, a pim and one lamp modual you can check out your property for signal strengh and...

Which system for me? Lighting for today, with the potential for further HA.

As Wayne says, Insteon is not a "dual mesh" product as their marketing has stated. Only their AccessPoints/SignaLinc phase couplers use RF to communicte with each other only. Their other products do not have RF and are only powerline.
